Songs of the Four Winds: New Music for Voice, Viola, and Piano, 1867 Sanctuary

Monday July 23, 2018
8:00 PM

Soprano Abigail Chapman, violist Gregory K. Williams, and pianist Fang-Yi Chu will present a concert of classical music by living composers on Monday, July 23rd. The performance includes songs in Chinese, Russian, and English, and pieces by composers from New York, Maine, Colorado, Puerto Rico, The Netherlands, and China. At times whimsical, at times gorgeously lush, and at times spiky and rhythmic, this exciting program will reward the adventurous concert-goer. Themes of romantic love, nature, freedom, and even death will be explored. The audience will hear a different take on Chinese folk song that leaves them attuned to new ideas of beauty, and luscious neo-Romantic music that will wash over them and leave them wanting more. We'll hear a lesson from the wisdom of Rumi; a child playing with the four winds; music about insomnia; and even four Amendments from the Bill of Rights in song! This concert is sure to delight, intrigue, and inspire.
