Princeton Festival’s Free “Making of a Musical” Workshop Prepares High School Students for Theater Success

PRINCETON, NJ (May 7, 2019) – High school students with an interest in the musical theater can sign up now for The Princeton Festival’s “Making of a Musical,” a three-part interactive workshop beginning May 25 that offers professional advice on singing, auditioning, and career direction.

The program is free, but seats are limited, and pre-registration is required. Full information and a registration form are available on the Festival website (https://princetonfestival.org/event/2019-musical-theater-workshop/) or by emailing education@princetonfestival.org.

Music professionals Gail Blache-Gill and Shari Gill will give students hands-on instruction in singing and caring for their voices, plus pointers on a theater career, on the first day of the workshop (Saturday, May 25). This session runs from 11 am to 5 pm at the Princeton Public Library.

Participants then spend two sessions at the Matthews Acting Studio (185 Nassau Street, Princeton) for a behind-the-scenes look at theater professionals preparing to stage this year’s Princeton Festival musical, the multiple Tony-nominated “She Loves Me.”

On Saturday, June 1, from 3 to 5 pm, they will sit in on a tech rehearsal of the show. On Tuesday, June 4, from 5 to 8 pm, they will attend a dress rehearsal. They will have the opportunity to talk with the creative and production teams about how these rehearsals shape the final production, and will see the final staging of the musical.
