In 1990, with a fist full of credit cards, a lucky run at the horse track and chutzpah for days, Franco Stevens launched Curve, the best-selling lesbian lifestyle magazine ever published. "Ahead of the Curve" traces the power of lesbian visibility and community from the early ‘90s to present day through the story of Franco’s founding of Curve magazine. Decades later, as her legacy faces extinction and she reassesses her life after a disabling injury, she sets out to understand visibility work being led by an intersection of queer women today.

Genealogy Workshop, Hunterdon County Historical Society

Thursday June 9, 2022
7:00 PM

The Hunterdon County Historical Society is offering two online genealogy workshops designed to enhance your research skills. One workshop focuses on evaluating the quality of your sources; the other covers how to wring every bit of information from a genealogical record. Betty DeSapio will lead both workshops. Evaluating Genealogical Resources will run on Thursday, June 9 at 7 p.m. You will learn how to gauge the quality of genealogical sources, which is crucial to judging the reliability of information, especially when information conflicts, as it often does. Participants also will learn how to seek the best possible sources for their research. Getting the Most from Genealogical Records on Thursday, June 16 at 7 p.m. will teach you how to look at genealogical records in a new light so you can harvest all their information. Records contain more than just birth, marriage and death information; they often hold clues about the life of the individual and can open the door to further research.

These are standalone workshops, and everyone is invited to enroll in one -- or both -- offerings. They will be held via Zoom and are free to Hunterdon County Historical Society members, or $10 per program for non-members. Pre-register at www.hunterdonhistory.org. Fees will help support future programs offered by the nonprofit HCHS.
