PPPL's Science on Saturday Lecture Series

The Ronald E. Hatcher Science on Saturday lectures kick off on Jan. 29 at 9:30 a.m. with a remote talk on "New Technological Frontiers in Cities" by Elie Bou-Zeid, a Princeton University professor of civil and environmental engineering and director of the Program in Environmental Engineering and Water Resources. Other talks will focus on a variety of topics, including plasma physics, ocean robotics, and auroras. The lectures will be offered live online for the third year and will be held at 9:30 a.m. weekly through March 12. (There is no lecture on Feb. 19 due to the Department of Energy's Science Bowl.) You must register online one time to get a link to attend all the lectures.

Ice Harvest, Howell Farm

Neighbors once called Howell Farm the “ice farm" because they could buy ice from the pond to keep their milk cool on the way to the train station on Pleasant Valley Road. In late January, visitors to the farm will learn about the tools and technology that made ice harvesting a successful business at the turn of the 20th century with demonstrations of ice cutting, hauling, and handling. Visitors can also help pull ice blocks up the ramp to the ice house, chip ice to make ice cream, and make an ice candle to take home. Ice cream and snow cone samples will be available in the afternoon, and food will be available at the farmhouse for purchase. $4 materials fee for ice candle craft.

Noises Off, Music Mountain Theater

Called "the funniest farce ever written," Noises Off presents a manic menagerie of initerant actors rehearsing a flop called, Nothing's On. Doors Slamming, on and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play. ? ?

Playwright Michael Frayn got the idea to write Noises Off after seeing one of his own plays from backstage and and deciding it was “funnier from behind than it was in front!” We see the company perform their show three times: once in rehearsal, once from backstage and once from the front as the audience

A crash course of everyone’s favorite Broadway blockbusters, including celebrity satires, pop culture zings accompanied with hip-hop on the piano! After tearing it up in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and London, Spamilton: An American Parody will stage a singing, dancing, comedy revolution at Bucks County Playhouse.

Our Town, Kelsey Theatre

Thornton Wilder’s timeless Our Town explores the universal themes of life, death, and everything in between -- through the eyes of a small New England town at the turn of the 20th century. Shakespeare ’70 brings us an Our Town for our times, featuring an ensemble cast, the play posits the question: “Do human beings realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?”
