Youth Fishing in our Parks, Mercer Parks

Please join us for our next waste collection event where we pledge to find upcycling and recycling opportunities for wine corks, sealed batteries, cell phones, bagged packaging styrofoam and more. In addition, bring your used bikes in any condition for the Boys & Girls Club of Mercer County to refurbish and distribute them to those in need. This event is free and open to the public. West Windsor Community Farmers Market

Opening Day of the West Windsor Community Farmers Market’s eighteenth year begins Saturday, May 1. To keep everyone safe and distanced, the entrance to the market has changed to 877 Alexander Road through the upper Vaughn Lot. The Market will run each and every Saturday, rain or shine from 9am-1pm until Thanksgiving featuring seventeen farms and twenty artisan food makers and a knife sharpener, all from within fifty-miles of West Windsor. 

Joining the roster this year are three farms: Moonshot Farms, Snapping Turtle Farm, and SpiceBush Farm along with Catalina Empanadas, Pure Indian Foods, River Horse Brewery, Sourland Mountain Spirits, Tea-For-All. Look for more organic produce, East Asian vegetables, beer, local spirits, and grass-fed ghee. Mask wearing continues to be required by all, and hand sanitizer stations are located throughout.

Although smaller than our standard market due to Covid forcing us to find a new, temporary, outdoor home... this get down will still feature more than 140 different DIY (socially distant) vendors each day, several of the area's finest food trucks both days and plenty of socially distant high fives!

In Their Shoes, Mental Health Exhibit, Attitudes In Reverse

Attitudes In Reverse® (AIR™), a Princeton-based nonprofit, will present its powerful In Their Shoes™ exhibit for the first time since the pandemic began on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Dowling Gardens (2 Dowling Parkway, Woodland Park, NJ 07424; Rain Date: Saturday, June 6, 2021). This event, which is being held with support from the Woodland Park Range and Woodland Park Stigma-Free Task Force, will also include the Coming Up for AIR™ mental health education and suicide prevention presentation.

The exhibit consists of 277 pairs of shoes to represent the New Jersey youth, ages 10 through 24, who lost hope and ended their lives in the years 2014 to 2016, according to the 2018 New Jersey Youth Suicide Report published by the state’s Department of Children and Families. Most of these individuals – 196 – were young men.

Corn Planting, Howell Farm

Students at Princeton Friends School – like kids everywhere – have had quite an unusual school year. Luckily for this group, a year that was completely in-person with classes largely outdoors (and with zero COVID cases!) will be capped off with two weekends and seven total performances of The Lion King Jr., all to be held outdoors on the school’s playground.

Performances are scheduled to take place on May 13 and 14 at 6:30 p.m., May 15 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., May 21 at 6:30 p.m. and May 22 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, May 20 is being held as a potential rain date if needed. Tickets are available to the community at https://www.pegasustheatrenj.org/ with a streaming option for those who can’t make it in person.
