Read and Explore: Animal Tracks, Terhune Orchards
Terhune Orchards Read and Explore Program is our winter education series, following the popular seasonal Read and Pick Program. These fun, informative programs include educational activities and stories followed by hands-on crafts and exploration. Our second Read and Explore program is Animal Tracks. The program lasts about an hour and includes a craft program plus a story and educational segment. After story time, we will make bird feeders with wild bird seed to take home and help the birds through winter. Waters of the World: The Story of Climate in Six Remarkable Lives Tuesday, February 4 5:00 p.m. - Dilworth Room A book signing and sale will follow the lecture - Register Sarah Dry Writer and Historian of Science We now take it for granted that Earth has a global climate system made up of interconnected parts, constantly changing on all scales of both time and space. A prerequisite for the discovery of global warming and climate change, this idea has a history. It was forged by scientists studying water in its myriad forms. In this talk, Sarah Dry will explore the stories of six remarkable men and women who traveled to some of the remotest places on Earth to study the role of the oceans, atmosphere, and ice sheets in generating our shared global climate.

State of the Birds, D&R Greenway
D&R Greenway Land Trust, which has preserved nearly 21,000 acres of wild habitat in central New Jersey, will host an important lecture on the State of Birds in our region on Tuesday, February 4. Doors open for light refreshments at 6:30. Presentation begins at 7pm. Cornell Ornithology Lab has recently released a report estimating that North America has lost an estimated 2.9 billion birds since the 1970's. A major factor in this reality is habitat loss. The State of Birds lecture on February 4 is free and open to the public. It will be held at D&R Greenway's Johnson Education Center, One Preservation Place, Princeton.
