Youth Charity Organization 5K Festival

Youth Charity Organization (YCO), a Mercer County-based group providing philanthropy and leadership opportunities for high school students, will hold its inaugural 5k Festival to support Attitudes In Reverse® (AIR™) on National Make a Difference Day, Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Rosedale Community Park, 424 Federal City Rd, Pennington, NJ.

Check-in at the October 26th event will begin at 9:00 a.m. The race will start at 10:00 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10:15 a.m. The event will also feature live music by Sonoa, whose debut album, Waves of Change, is available on Spotify. Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler announces the opportunity to dispose of unneeded and expired prescription drugs during the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 26, 2019. The goal is to help local residents to rid their medicine cabinets of unused and easily abused opioid painkillers, in addition to any other unneeded prescription medications.

Mercer County residents can easily dispose of unused and expired prescription pills, by bringing them to the parking lot across from the Mercer County Administration Building at 640 South Broad Street in Trenton, between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. Syringes, sharp instruments, or liquid solutions not accepted.

Richard “The Duke” Stockton, (1790-1837) wrote proudly of his “cider as fine as wine.” This October, Morven celebrates its second generation of Stocktons with a free family day highlighting Morven’s apple orchards, heritage cooks, and harvest time activities popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

The day’s activities include costumed reenactors and hands-on demonstrations, including cider making, distilling, and cooking. There will be pickling, preserving and sweetmeats demos from the kitchen garden. Foodways to America and the important role of enslaved people in bringing new foods to this country will be recognized. Families will enjoy live period music and try the dances of the time. Take-home crafts for all ages include making corn husk dolls and printing with apples.

You will follow your guide on a trail of glowing Jack O' Lanterns; along the way you stop to meet the characters in an Irish Folktale that unfolds along the path. We attempt to make the children feel comfortable in the outdoors, and hope to engender a feeling of awe and respect for nature, all while having fun. D&R Greenway Masquerade Ball

D&R Greenway Land Trust invites the public to don creature costumes for their annual Masquerade Ball. This at-home celebration of their 30th year will be held at the Johnson Education Center, a circa-1900 barn, on Saturday, October 26, from 6 to 10 p.m. Co-chairs James and Jess Fiorentino and Holly Welles and Rob Thomas will host this event in a heated tent under the stars. Guests are encouraged to come to this “paw-ty” as a favorite creature, or as themselves. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes and masks. A bountiful farm-to-table supper will be followed by cartooning with Patrick McDonnell, creator of the nationally syndicated cartoon, “Mutts”. Personal photos will be available through Nic’s Photo Show.

ACO Movie Night & Open Discussion Featuring "Screenagers"

On Saturday, October 26, at 7:00PM at the ACO Campus in Princeton, NJ, ACO Movie Night & Open Discussion will feature Screenagers, a documentary by physician and filmmaker, Delaney Ruston.

Dr. Rusin takes a deeply personal approachas she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and sometimes unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists and brain scientists, Screenagers reveals how tech time impacts development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. Howard Chavis, M.D. and Susan Marcel, D.O. will lead the open discussion after the film.

On Saturday, October 26 at 8 pm and Sunday, October 27 at 4 pm, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) celebrates 100 years of Sir Edward Elgar's beloved Cello Concerto in E Minor, Op. 85 with a performance featuring soloist Pablo Ferrández. Mr. Ferrández caused a sensation this summer when he performed at the Hollywood Bowl to critical acclaim with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Also on the program of late romantic works are Jean Sibelius' The Swan of Tuonela and Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 3 in F Major, Op. 90. Edward T. Cone Music Director Rossen Milanov conducts. Both concerts are at historic Richardson Auditorium, in Alexander Hall on the campus of Princeton University.
