Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Disposal Day

The Mercer County Improvement Authority will host a Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Disposal Day on Saturday, Sept. 29, for County residents who would like to recycle common residential chemical wastes or used electronics.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the John T. Dempster Fire School at 350 Lawrence Station Road in Lawrence, rain or shine. Please note that Bakers Basin Road is closed to through traffic due to a bridge replacement project. Those traveling to Dempster who normally would take Bakers Basin Road from Route 1 can take Route 1 north to Grovers Mill Road to Quakerbridge Road to Lawrence Station Road.

Acceptable household items include: aerosol cans, used motor oil, propane gas tanks, pesticides and herbicides, car batteries, paint thinner, oil-based paint, stains and varnishes, gasoline, anti-freeze, driveway sealer, insect repellents, mercury and fluorescent/CFL bulbs. Acceptable used electronic items include: computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, stereos, televisions and microwaves. Birding Field Trip, Washington Crossing Audubon Society

Join Washington Crossing Audubon Society at 8 AM on Saturday, September 29, for a free, public birding trip led by Brad Merritt at the Negri-Nepote Native Grasslands Preserve in Somerset County. This 164-acre preserve is home to a number of sensitive species, including the Grasshopper Sparrow, Cooper's Hawk, American Kestrel and Eastern Meadowlark. We will also have the opportunity to view Wood Ducks, Bluebirds and Purple Martins. For more info or in case of inclement weather, call Brad Merritt, 609-921-8964.

Directions: Take Rte. 514 East (Amwell Rd.) from Rte. 206 at Woods Tavern. From South Middlebush Rd., turn onto Skillmans Lane. The preserve entrance is on the West side, between the two 90-degree curves.

Young theater goers will delight in an unexpected story of friendship between a minnow and a shark, as ArtsPower National Touring Theatre presents “Nugget and Fang” at Mercer County Community College's (MCCC’s) Kelsey Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

In this underwater musical adventure, Nugget, a minnow, and Fang, a shark, are getting along swimmingly — until Nugget’s first day of minnow school. That’s when Nugget learns that minnows are supposed to be afraid of sharks. To regain Nugget’s trust, Fang takes desperate and hilarious measures, but nothing goes as planned. Fang is moping in deep waters when he notices that Nugget and his minnow schoolmates are caught up in some big “networthy” trouble. Can Fang save the day and prove he’s a true friend?

We are pleased to announce that Reggae Night has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 29 from 6 -10 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m.

The night will feature the music of The Verdict and the Mango Men. These two reggae groups will be showcasing their original music for a night at the Festival Grounds. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Visitors are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and coolers with sealed bottles of water to enjoy an evening out at the park. No outside food or alcohol is permitted inside the Festival Grounds.
