Princeton University Art Museum to Close to Visitors Temporarily

With regret, the Princeton University Art Museum must temporarily close its doors to visitors at 5 p.m. today, Sunday, March 15. We do so out of concern for health and safety and reducing density on the Princeton University campus and to mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19.
Our satellite gallery space, Art@Bainbridge, and both Museum Store locations will also close to visitors at 5 p.m. today.
For those of us who live and work in the world of art, it is indeed a profoundly sad thing to lose contact with great works of art in the original. Normalcy will return, but even now there are things we can do to remain a community who cares about the value of the arts and humanities in our lives:

  • Visit the Museum's website regularly for news of special digital content and virtual events.
  • Follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter for updates and daily content.
  • Enjoy armchair travel by reading some of the great stories of art and art history. Our director, James Steward, has personally curated a bookshelf of some of his favorite recent reads, all of them currently available for local delivery from Labyrinth Books in Princeton.
  • Discover the catalogues accompanying our current exhibitions: Life Magazine and the Power of Photography and Cézanne: The Rock and Quarry Paintings, still available through mail order from the Museum Store,
  • Engage in art-making experiences virtually with friends and family. Many of our self-guided family activities can be done from home. More art-making suggestions will be coming soon.

We hope this closure to visitors proves to be of short duration, and we will write again as soon as we are able to reopen. In the meantime, Princeton University will continue to share coronavirus response updates here.
We remain hard at work shaping powerful experiences of art for you, and look forward to sharing more information and ideas with you soon.
