Princeton Honors Immigrant Heritage Month With Proclamation Issued by Mayor and Council

Princeton, NJ – Princeton will be honoring Immigrant Heritage Month in June with a proclamation issued by Mayor and Council. As a Welcoming Community, Princeton recognizes and celebrates the diversity that makes our town such a special place. Immigrant Heritage Month is a month-long celebration highlighting the incredible contributions that immigrants have made and continue to make to our nation. The “I Am An Immigrant” initiative is an ongoing public awareness campaign to encourage Americans to share stories of their families’ immigrant heritage, and what it means to be an immigrant in America. The campaign provides avenues for allies to stand in solidarity with their immigrant employees, colleagues, constituents, neighbors, and friends.

“Princeton is proud to participate in this initiative as a way of recognizing immigrant contributions to our community and acknowledging that our community is stronger because of our diversity, not in spite of it. Immigrant Heritage Month is a time to affirm our commitment to unity, inclusiveness, and diversity through a powerful and growing initiative in our country.” – Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert

“Like countless other immigrants, my family came to the United States in search of a future full of possibilities. Today, my siblings and I are leading the lives our parents once dreamed of for us – with careers dedicated to making a difference. During Immigrant Heritage Month, we are reminded that America’s strength is reflected in our diversity built over generations, and whether our families came to America decades ago or months ago, we celebrate the stories, traditions and cultures that make our community truly great.” – Princeton Councilwoman Leticia Fraga

Despite their countless contributions, the role of immigrants in building and enriching our nation has frequently been overlooked and undervalued throughout our history and continuing to the present day. By recognizing the contributions that we all make to create a vibrant culture and a growing economy, we make our community more prosperous and more inclusive to all who call it home.
