Gerrymandering & Redistricting in NJ, MCLS

Thursday May 27, 2021
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The 2020 Census began the process of redistricting, in which states redraw their congressional and legislative districts to reflect population changes. This process, which occurs every ten years, will take on greater visibility than perhaps ever before due to the increased attention to gerrymandering, the practice of drawing maps that favor one political party over another. In class, we will learn the basics of redistricting and the criteria for producing fair districts that reflect a state's demographic and political makeup. All are welcome. No prior knowledge of redistricting or politics is necessary. Presented by Brad Van Arnum, who has a passion for redistricting.

Registration with an email is required, so we can send you a link to connect through GoToMeeting. You will receive the link approximately 24 hours before the program. CONTACT: hopeprogs@mcl.org
