Things to Do This Holiday Season

This is holiday season will be different but it doesn't mean that it won't be fun.  Many of your favorite, local traditions are still happening - they might be virtual - but hey, we'll take it!  We will be updating this list as fabulous things unfold so check back regularly. Please check business websites to make sure all the events and happenings are up to date.  As we know, things change rapidly during these extraordinary times.  Happy Holidays!



Up Your Holiday Home Decoration Game - Holiday cheer inside and outside will be super important this year.  Get the family to help - maybe each family member gets their own room to do what they want! Here are some ideas to help and don't forget to make your neighbors happy by cutting the outside lights off by 10pm - it will save on your energy bill, too. Fun Ideas

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade -The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is back in a whole new way, reimagined to kick off the holidays safely. Tune in to NBC to enjoy larger-than-life balloons, dazzling floats, big stars & the one & only Santa Claus!  More Info

Palmer Square Tree Lighting (Virtual) -  Tune in from your phones, tablets and tv’s and  celebrate THE annual Tree Lighting in a whole new way on Friday, November 27th @ 6pm! More Info

Virtual Concerts & Holiday POPS with Princeton Symphony Orchestra - Dec 5 - 20 - Jump joyfully into the season with holiday favorites performed by pianists Christina and Michelle Naughton, graceful dancers from American Repertory Ballet, the Princeton High School Choir, and our wonderful PSO musicians led by Rossen Milanov!  More Info

It's A Wonderful Life - Live Radio Broadcast - Dec 10 -13 - Adapted by Joe Landry and directed by T. Oliver Reid, with a talented student ensemble, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve. This broadcast is a co-production for Rider’s Westminster College of the Arts’ theatre program and 107.7 The Bronc. More Info

Witness the Crossing, Washington Crossing State Park - On Christmas Day, our partners at Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA) will premiere a brand new short film depicting the crossing reenactment. It's Revolutionary War history up close and personal! Although the parks will not hold the annual crossing reenactment this year, you can watch this film shot just a few weeks ago at the PA park through their YouTube channel or their Facebook page. Bookmark one of these pages and tune in LIVE with your family on Christmas morning at 10 AM! You can tune in this video on the park's Facebook page or YouTube. (Note: this will be available starting Christmas Day at 10AM not before.)


Old Barracks Museum and Trenton's Role in the American Revolution - December 26 - Join the Old Barracks Museum and the 1719 William Trent House online on Saturday, December 26 for a series of virtual events that celebrate Trenton's role in the American Revolution. The Winter Village in Princeton - from Nov. 27 to Dec. 24. Tuesdays through Sundays 12 to 6pm.  Vendor Chalets are located on Palmer Square, at the Garden Theatre and at Hinds Plaza. Chalets will be decorated courtesy of McCarter Theatre. Discover local artists, artisan handicrafts and specialty items and see artists at work in their chalets.... Local restaurants will be sellin hot drinks and snacks outdoors and local retailers will be offering sidewalk sales.

Cutting Your Own Tree - A family trip to cut down the tree checks several boxes - getting the kids outdoors, the start of a new tradition, supporting local farms, and decorating your house with a real, sweet smelling tree -

Santa Visits at Kales' Christmas Shop - This year has been a tough one and we didn’t want the year to pass without a little happiness and tradition. Santa will be visiting Kale’s Garden Center in the Greenhouse. Safe practices will be observed. Note: Due to Covid19 and current safety regulations Santa will have a face covering and seating for your loved ones will be positioned in front of Santa. Santa may also be available in our tree yard for more distancing photos. Please wear a facemask and observe social distancing guidelines. Dates:   Nov. 27, 28, & 29,  Dec. 5, 12 & 13,  Sunday Dec. 6th 1 pm-5 pm

Terhune’s -  Even though the orchards and veggies are winding down, Terhune's still has fun family weekends, tree trimming ideas, hot cider, and music at the winery -

Santa’s Steam Train Ride in New Hope - Christmas time will soon be here, bringing along joyous memories of times past. This year the New Hope Railroad invites you along as we set the clock back and showcase a magical journey mirroring those of years ago. Advanced reservations are required before visiting.

Holiday Train Show @NY Botanical Garden - Marvel at model trains zipping through an enchanting display of famous New York landmarks—imagine the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Rockefeller Center, and other favorites—each delightfully re-created from natural materials such as birch bark, acorns, and cinnamon sticks.This year to attend the show you must become a member.

Festival of Trees @Morven - November 18, 2020 through Sunday, January 10, 2021 - Festival of Trees is open to the public during regular museum hours, Wednesdays through Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We will close from 1:00p.m. to 1:30p.m. for cleaning. Timed admission tickets are available for purchase and will be given priority. Walk up admission tickets will be by availability in our museum shop. Please be prepared for possible museum entrance delays in observance of CDC guidelines ensuring reduced crowd sizes.

Christmas in Cape May - What better place to get into the true spirit of Christmas than Victorian Cape May? This seaside town is transformed into a Dickens village for the holidays with garlands of fragrant greens and twinkling gaslights. Skating on Palmer Square - Make lasting memories and start new traditions this holiday season at Palmer Square’s “eco-friendly” outdoor synthetic skating rink! Located on Hulfish Street Behind the Nassau Inn Hotel. 

Mercer County Ice Skating Center - The rink has opened for the season, but no birthday parties or skate rentals are offered this year. Strict COVID-19 protocols have been put in place. The Mercer County Ice Skating Center at Mercer County Park is open seven days a week through mid-March. Deemed an "open-air, sheltered skating facility," this center also features a full snack bar, fireplace and lounge area, vending machines, skate rentals, and lockers.

The Rink at Rockefeller Center - Ice skating under the Christmas Tree on The Rink at Rockefeller Center is one of New York’s quintessential winter activities. It’s a tradition that has never failed to delight. The Rink is a gathering place for everyone, and you’re always invited to join in on the fun.



Shady Brook Farm Holiday Light Show - November 21 - January 10 - Shady Brook Farm’s spectacular Holiday Light Show features more than 3 million lights illuminating acres of farmland. Encounter whimsical displays and familiar characters as you drive through in the comfort of your own car or enjoy the show on an open-air wagon ride (weather permitting).

"The Great Christmas Light Driving Tour" -The Allentown Village Initiative (TAVI) is pleased to present the 2020 "Great Christmas Light Driving Tour" for Allentown and Upper Freehold. Residents are invited to register their decorated homes at to be included in an online map of decorated homes in the area. The map will be posted on the TAVI website, beginning December 1, 2020 and will be updated throughout the month. With activities and travel limited, the Great Christmas Light Driving Tour offers a free, safe way to spread and enjoy some much-needed holiday spirit. So pop the family in the car, put on your favorite holiday playlist and head to Allentown for some cheer.

Diggerland Drive-Thru Holiday Light Show - Starting November 18th and running most evenings through January 3rd from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., you are invited to experience a light show like no other. Drive a mile-length course through America's only construction theme & water park to witness hundreds of thousands of lights, tour their holiday displays, enjoy tasty treats, and listen to their very own radio station to fill your car with holiday spirit! Sesame Place Christmas Drive-Thru - Guests can now experience Sesame Place in a new way during The all new Furry & Bright Christmas Drive-Thru, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, November 10 through December 23 beginning at 5PM. From the comfort of your own vehicle, guests will journey through a winter wonderland with millions of twinkling lights, holiday décor, a festive Christmas soundtrack, and everyone's favorite Sesame Street friends dressed in their warm winter best. They will also have the chance to gaze up at an illuminated nine-foot menorah in celebration of Hanukkah. To cap off the trail, guests can wave to the jolly man himself, Santa Claus, as he wishes everyone a happy holiday season! For more information, click here. 

PNC Bank Arts Center Magic of Lights -Take a drive through this spectacular holiday light experience, which uses LED technology and digital animation. New this year are the illuminated mega-trees with more than 240 feet of lights inside the Toyota Holiday Village. Hours are Weekdays 5-10pm and Weekends: 5-11pm. For more information, click here. 

Holiday Lights at The Bronx Zoo - make it a day trip and head north to the BRONX - get your tickets in advance.  On your way up, or on your way back stop by the tree at Rockefeller Center - boom, now that's a day OUT!  Info/Tickets
