Building Princeton (with LEGO), Historical Society of Princeton

Sunday April 27, 2025
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

The Historical Society of Princeton's annual Building Princeton event will be held on Sunday, April 28 in the Wojciechowicz Barn at Updike Farmstead, 354 Quaker Road. With more than 100,000 LEGO™ building blocks available, teams learn basic architectural principles to recreate iconic structures, including Nassau Hall, Einstein's house, and Princeton Public Library. Teams pick their favorite to construct and work together to create a scale model. At the end of the session, the buildings are placed on a large-scale map, creating a unique view of the community.

Led by architect Stephen W. Schwartz from Building Blocks Workshops, the event is designed for all ages. Teams can be formed with family, friends, scout groups, etc, and are often multi-generational. (Teams with children under age 16 need to include one adult.) At the conclusion of the program, each team receives a copy of "The Princeton Architectural Treasure Hunt Map" and are encouraged to explore Princeton and find the real buildings.

Tickets are $30 for a team of 2, $37.50 for 3, or $45 for 4 people. Pre-registration is encouraged, as space is limited. Tickets are available online at www.princetonhistory.org.

Moore’s Station Quarry, The Pennington School

Sunday April 27, 2025
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Richard Hunter, president of Hunter Research, Inc., a Trenton-based historic preservation consulting firm, presents. Mined for trap rock on and off for more than a century, the Moore’s Station Quarry on Route 29 in the northwest corner of Hopewell Township ceased operation in 2023 and is preparing for a new life as a Mercer County park. This gigantic hole in the ground, a geological marvel exposed by the progressive removal of the western end of Baldpate Mountain, has a fascinating, little known history. Register.
