Shakespeare's "happiest" play combines gender bending mistaken identity and dazzling verbal wit to create the delightful anarchy of As You Like It. This romantic escapade centers around Rosalind--a sexual instigator who cavorts through the play like a playful lioness, charming and skewering all who encounter her. Of all of Shakespeare's comic heroines, Rosalind is the most gifted, as remarkable in her world as Hamlet or Falstaff are in theirs.
Kathy Garofano directs this thirs annual outdoor production of Shakespeare on the Green at The Hun School.
Famous Lines from the Play
"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."
"Men have died from time to time, and worms have eaten them; but not for love."
Commentaries
"The popularity of Rosalind remains
because she makes love to the man instead of waiting for the man to make
love to her."
--George Bernard Shaw
"Rosalind is "a mercurial androgyne,
who, with dazzling electric wit combined with rapid alterations of persona,
appears as a liberated woman infused with masculine force."
--Camille Paglia
