PTO EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

·        Summer Vacation Workbooks were presented by the Sally Foster representative.  The workbooks cost $12 each.  This is not a fundraiser, but the school can earn points toward a reward (such as a digital camera, etc.).  Myra will get input from some teachers on the workbooks. 

·        Family Night ReadoverThe Girl Scouts are collecting paper back books for the Troops serving in Iraq.   People may donate books at Family Night.

·        New FamiliesVictoria drafted a letter from the PTO board welcoming new families to Tollgate.  The office will notify the board when a new family starts at Tollgate.  The board will call them and provide them with a packet introducing the new family to the TG PTO, a collecting some information from the family.

·        Newletter – We discussed the newsletter format and the current schedule.  Articles are due by 1/19.  The newsletter should be ready for copying on 1/31.  Another newsletter will go out in April and then again in late May/early June.

·        Future PTO meeting format was discussed.  We would like to get more people involved in the PTO, create a sense of community.  Some possible options were to have longer exec meetings and shorter general meetings with the bulk of the general meeting being a presentation by an invited speaker.  The next general meeting on February 3rd will be a working meeting to get input and discuss the format of future PTO meetings.

·        ReadathonThe Readathon will be in place of the usual Spring Bookfair.  The Readathon will raise money by having students collect money for each minute that they read during a given period.  Half of the money will got to the PTO and half will go to the Media Center.  The Readathon will kick off will be at the January 28th school meeting.  It will finish on March 2nd with a celebration.  The Readathon theme will be “Got Books”. 

·        Mini-Grants are due by May 15th.
