Dear Toll Gate Faculty Member,
It is our great pleasure to welcome you back to school this September. We sincerely hope that each of you has had a wonderful, relaxing summer, and are well rested and prepared for a terrific year ahead.
Over the summer, your PTO has been getting organized and ready for the upcoming school year. We believe that one of the PTO’s main functions is to act as a bridge between the parents and the school faculty and administration, and we hope to fulfill that role, in part, by keeping lines of communication open. Please feel free to contact any of the PTO Executive Board members – our job is to serve you, our kids, and their families.

PTO meetings will be held six times during the upcoming school year. We invite you to join us – these meetings are NOT just for parents! Some of you may even be invited to present or speak at an upcoming meeting. Dates for the 2005-2006 school year are (in the Media Center):
Tuesday, September 13th @ 7:00 PM - "Wish List" Presented
Wednesday, October 12th @ 9:00 AM - "Wish List" Vote
Tuesday, November 29th @ 7:00 PM
Wednesday ,February 1st@9:00AM
Tuesday, March 28th @ 7:00PM
Tuesday, May 16th @ 7:00 PM
There are several PTO sponsored programs that you are invited to take advantage of this year. They are described below:
We will be providing $6000 worth of funding for an annual “Wish List”. The Wish List is coordinated through Myra, and will be presented to the PTO at its first meeting of the school year on September 13th. After presentation and discussion, the Wish List will be published in the PTO newsletter and on the web site. It will be voted on by the general membership at the PTO meeting on October 12th. All items funded via the Wish List must be purchased no later than May 31 unless special permission is granted by the PTO Executive Board for a purchase beyond this date
Each of you has been provided with a Mini-Grant Application form and instructions for how the program works. Please read the instructions carefully. In the past, the proper procedure has not always been followed, resulting in confusion and other difficulties. The Mini-Grant Application form has been revised this summer to clearly explain how the program works and pertinent dates. Additional forms can be found on the PTO web site, or you can request an electronic form of it from tgpto@hvrsd.k12.nj.us.
It is our great pleasure to be able to provide each staff member or department with annual startup funds to be used throughout the school year to purchase classroom supplies that are not provided by the school district’s funds and which a teacher deems necessary for appropriate classroom instruction of the curriculum. Any unused money is to be returned to Chris Murphy.
Room Parent Funds
Each Head Room Parent receives funds ($5/child) to be used at the discretion of the room parent and teacher throughout the school year, to purchase supplies necessary to enhance classroom activities such as special “station days” (e.g. 3rd grade Prairie Day, Matter Day, etc.), plays, parties, and other special events. Items purchased with these funds can include craft items, snacks, and costume materials, but are not limited to these items. However, funds may only be used for classroom/school-based activities. The proper use of these funds will be explained to the Head Room Parents. At the end of the school year, unused funds must be returned by the Head Room Parent to Chris Murphy.
We worked hard last year to establish a useful and timely PTO web site containing contact information, committee chairs, important dates, monthly budget updates, and other information. This year we plan to expand the site by adding copies of the newsletter, forms that you can download (such as the Mini-Grant Application), additional committee information, and whatever else seems useful and appropriate. We’re open to suggestions on how to make it even more useful to you and the rest of the Toll Gate community. The PTO site is found at:

We’re looking forward to another fantastic year at Toll Gate!
