We are pleased to announce that the details for the upcoming parent workshops on teen behavior and sexuality presented by HiTOPS have been finalized! 

HiTOPS gives a dynamic presentation and is well positioned to provide firsthand information about what our teens are learning and experiencing in middle and high school.  As parents, we need to understand the issues our children are facing and learn how to communicate with them effectively.  HiTOPS’ experienced educators will be facilitating the following 90-minute workshops for Timberlane parents:

“Boys will be Boys?” Tips for Raising Confident, Responsible Men

Parents will explore the special concerns related to raising boys in our culture. Of particular focus will be helping parents identify which characteristics they would like to foster in boys and strategies on encouraging their sons to be comfortable with who they are, rather than trying to be who the culture tells them to be.

Mirror, Mirror On the Wall: Helping Teens Develop A Healthy Body Image –

Parents will discuss the role of media, peers & family in contributing to the unrealistic expectations of personal appearance.  Specific tips for building a positive body image will be presented.

Is My Kid Thinking About SEX?  Yikes, Kids are doing WHAT?!

Parents will have an opportunity to hear research regarding teen sexual behavior and discuss their own values regarding appropriate levels of sexual expression. A discussion of strategies to help children postpone sexual involvement and limit-setting and communication skills including "I messages," active listening and ways to invite further conversation will be reviewed.

“Talk to Me’ Workshop

This popular workshop is led by teens and gives parents an opportunity to voice their concerns, ask questions about the current realities of teen sexuality, and learn some strategies and skills for using "teachable moments" to discuss sexuality with their children.  This workshop offers a very unique opportunity for parents to hear this information from the teens’ perspective!

HiTops is a valuable teen health resource in our community and we hope that you will consider attending one or more workshops – you will take away some great information!
