7th GRADE FRIDAY NIGHT OUT: March 3, 7-9 PM

Our next 7th Grade FNO will include lots of activities, including basketball, volleyball, ping pong, a DJ, dancing and  a Silent Auction. Auction items  include: CD’s, DVD’s, watch, gift card to Aeropostale and a DVD Player. The $3 admission includes 5 free raffle tickets; additional tickets are 5 for $1. Fresh popcorn and other refreshments will be available. Voluntary donations of canned goods are being collected for the Trenton Soup Kitchen. Chaperones will be present. She will address the reasons for the increased rates of childhood and teenage obesity and poor nutritional habits.  She will give simple specific interventions that parents, teachers and schools can implement to improve children and teens health and body image.

Do you (or your kids) use the district’s mail program, First Class? If so, technical personnel request that you download the client software to your computer and run it locally, rather than accessing the mail program through the web interface. If you do not have the client software, you can download it from the HVRSD website at: http://www.hvrsd.k12.nj.us/district/Tech/fcdownload.htm. You can still view the homework page via the web, but if teachers have uploaded attachments you will need to use the First Class client software to download them.

 

 

SPRING ATHLETICS INFORMATION MEETINGS: 2/15, 2/16

If your son/daughter is interested in trying out and wants to know more, they should attend the TMS athletic informational meeting. Informational meetings will be held during morning homeroom on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16.

Feb 15th - Baseball/Softball (7th and 8th) - Small Gym
Feb 16th - Track & Field (6th, 7th & 8th)


Students must be present during the tryouts in order to be considered for the selection process. Spring season for Boys'/Girls' Lacrosse, Baseball /Softball will begin on Friday, March 10, 2006. Track & Field will begin their practices on Monday, March
13, 2006.


Remember, any student who is planning on participating in a spring sport must have a completed physical on file with Janet Watson, school nurse at Timberlane Middle School. PARENT LEADERSHIP CORPS (PLC) REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

PLC is a program that focuses on parenting of adolescents.  PLC consists of six 90 minute sessions run by trained parent facilitators. The program continues to be free to our parents, courtesy of PTO. There will be morning groups on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11:00.  The Thursday group will begin on February 23, and the Wednesday group will begin March 1. Both groups will run for 6 consecutive weeks. The Science & Engineering Fair will be held at Timberlane this Saturday. Participants will be judged between 12:00 and 1:30 PM, then the fair will be open to the public until 4:00 PM.  “Mad Science” will present a show for all ages at 2:30. Winners will be announced at 3:30. Admission is free—please come to support our young scientists! The Science & Engineering Fair will be held at Timberlane on Saturday Feb. 4, 2006, (snow date Feb. 11).  A schedule will be posted on the Timberlane web site (under the Science Fair link), and sent home with science fair participants this week. Dozens of student projects will be on exhibit, and their creators will be on hand to discuss and explain their research. Winners in each category will move on to the Mercer County Fair. “Mad Science” will present a show for all ages at 2:30. Admission is free—please come to support our budding scientists!

The Princeton Health Care System, in cooperation with the HVRSD, is presenting a lecture on "Keys to a Healthy Heart for You and Your Family." The theme of this week’s 6th grade FNO is “The Timberlane Winter Games.”

The Special Ed Council will present “RDI: Relationship Development Intervention” to help aid children with social skills. RDI focuses on emotional referencing, social coordination, declarative language and flexible thinking. The presentation will be held at the Board Office building, 425 S. Main Street. MAGAZINE SALE BEGINS: Wednesday, February 15

We have a new and exciting fundraiser coming to Timberlane. The event will officially kick off during the lunch periods on February 15th, when selling packs will be distributed to the students. New magazine subscriptions AND magazine renewals are counted so encourage everyone you know to buy and/or renew their subscriptions through the Magazine Drive. The magazine company will also donate $1,000 of orders and a DVD/VCR player to the media center, and students will be eligible for prizes. 

 

Parent Volunteers are needed to collect orders and distribute prizes during lunches on the days that orders will be turned in: 2/17, 2/22 and 2/24. The event's success depends upon our ability to process the orders and motivate the students with prizes so please consider volunteering for an hour on the hand-in days. The 8th Grade FNO was a great success, thanks to the efforts of Sharon Snyder and Meg Morocco and their merry band of parent volunteers. TASK benefited with food and money, so additional thanks to all who contributed in this way.

 

Thanks also to everyone who helped with the School Store and the 7th Grade Dance. These events cannot be successful without volunteer efforts and fortunately, our community continues to participate.

Saturday, Janurary 28th : CHS welcomes Vince Papale, former Eagles player, oldest rookie in the NFL, cancer survivor, inspiration for Disney’s upcoming movie, “Invincible.”  Tickets are available in advance and at the door for the presentation. Student admission is $5 and Adults $10. NOT ALL BULLIES ARE BOYS! Thursday, February 16 7:00 PM

Rachel Simmons, author of Odd Girl Out and Odd Girl Speaks Out will speak on the “hidden culture of aggression in girls”—specifically about bullies, cliques, popularity and jealousy. You will learn to understand the causes of aggression and to recognize the focus of girls’ social power as well as preventative intervention. The talk (and a book signing) will be held at the Music Building at The College of New Jersey.
