Womanspace Awarded Neighborhood Grant from The Starbucks Foundation

Lawrenceville, NJ, July 3, 2024 – The Starbucks Foundation's Neighborhood Grants program has awarded Womanspace a $2,000 grant. This grant award is thanks to a local Starbucks partner (employee) nomination who recognized the organization's impactful work in the Mercer County area, focusing on providing critical services and support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Through this unique program, The Starbucks Foundation invites Starbucks partners and alumni to nominate a local organization in their community. Since 2019, more than 13,000 grants have been awarded to local organizations, amounting to more than $20 million. Womanspace was recently selected from among 33,000 nominations submitted by Starbucks partners earlier this year.

Womanspace provides comprehensive services to individuals and families impacted by domestic and sexual violence, including 24/7 hotlines, emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and prevention education. Our mission is to prevent abuse, protect families, and change lives through empowerment and a safety net of supportive services. Our mission mandates us to be essential to survivors and offer excellent survivor-centered care that empowers survivors to regain control over their lives. This grant will support Womanspace's ongoing initiatives, such as the Safe House, Transitional Housing, and Crisis Intervention Services, ensuring survivors receive the help they need to rebuild their lives.

"We are deeply honored to receive this grant from The Starbucks Foundation," said Nathalie S. Nelson, the CEO & President of Womanspace, Inc. "This support will enable us to continue offering life-saving services to those in need and strengthen our community's response to domestic violence and sexual assault. We are grateful for the recognition and the opportunity to further our mission."

The Starbucks Foundation's Neighborhood Grants program supports grassroots, community-led nonprofit organizations through catalytic investments in the form of grants. Neighborhood Grants also help build sustained local impact and inspire increased partner (employee) engagement with nonprofit organizations that work in their communities.

"Our partners (employees) know their communities best, and have shared great insights about the organizations helping to uplift others in their neighborhoods, from supporting youth and families to fighting hunger and promoting environmental stewardship," said Alicia Vermaele, executive director of The Starbucks Foundation. "Through our latest round of Neighborhood Grants, we're proud to support local organizations nominated by Starbucks partners who make our communities stronger."
