Princeton, NJ During Welcoming Week 2023, Princeton Senior Resource Center (PSRC) partnered with the Princeton Department of Human Services to bring the vibrant spirit of Loteria to our community. This collaboration marks another significant stride in our journey to foster inclusivity, unity, and celebrate the rich diversity of greater Mercer County.
Approximately one hundred residents gathered at PSRC's Suzanne Patterson Building to play Loteria, which is Spanish for "lottery." The game is a tradition of Mexican fairs and is like bingo, using images on a deck of cards. An additional game of Human Bingo was played at the two-hour event, encouraging participants to talk to new friends and ask them questions about themselves.
We were delighted to open our space to a diverse group of participants, fostering a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere to promote a sense of unity. Our goal was to strengthen relationships and cultivate a lively and engaged community.
"This event wouldn't be possible without its community partners, volunteers, and participants," said Director of Social Services, Johanna Peters.
Loteria community partners include Princeton Human Services, Princeton Human Services Commission, Councilwoman Leticia Fraga, Councilman Leighton Newlin, and Bloomberg volunteers.
Special thanks to the following organizations and businesses for donating prizes, free giveaways, and food to make this event possible: Olives, Town Square, Lindt's, Always Best Care, Small World Coffee, Cosmobleu Salon, Jazams, and the terraces at Lawrence. PSRC looks to host more community events and collaborate with additional community partners.
