Delaware River Cleanup Success

On September 17th, 219 volunteers and staff gathered in western New Jersey to cleanup a 40-mile stretch along the Delaware River.

The 5th Annual Delaware River Cleanup spanned from northern Hunterdon County to Trenton, NJ.  The effort was joined by a volunteer canoe crew out of the Giving Pond Recreation Area in Upper Black Eddy, PA.  The event coincided with National Cleanup Day and International Coastal Cleanup Day.

The successful effort removed impressive amounts of debris from the river including:

·       Over 250 bags of trash and recycling

·       Over 35 tires

·       A fiberglass boat

·       A few bicycles

·       Snorkeling apparatuses

·       Tubing paddles

·       Various debris including mattresses, TVs, construction debris, flotation devices, big pieces of Styrofoam, and foam

Thank you to our volunteers and partners NJ Clean Communities, NJ Department of Environmental Protection, and PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

In our next event, Joseph Grabas will present Owning the River: Water Rights and Boundaries on December 1st, 7 pm.  Registration for the virtual lecture: https://bit.ly/grabasriver.
