The Young Adult Advisory Council (YAAC) is Thriving at Womanspace

June 1, 2021 – Womanspace is proud that our new council is thriving and making a big impact on the community.  The Young Adult Advisory Council (YAAC) is comprised of young adults between the ages of 14-22. Through their social media platforms and life experiences, members assist in continuing the mission of Womanspace and spreading awareness to other young adults who may not be aware of Womanspace programs. The council currently consists of six members and they are still looking for more Mercer County Residents in high school and college.

The groups’ focus is to build leadership skills, to ensure young leader’s voices are being elevated at our organization, and learn different ways to connect with young people to prevent dating violence and sexual assault. Their current work is reaching more youth via Instagram, hoping to expand on other platforms.

Some of their focused and thoughtful work has been; SAAM/ Denim Day Instagram post in April. Mental Health Awareness Month in May. Juneteeth/Pride in June.

Through all of this social media blasting, we are seeing a huge uptick in likes and shares on our Instagram page.  The future of YAAC is looking very bright.  They are currently looking to secure funding through grants for possible conferences and other funding requests.  They would like to become the leaders/ facilitators and continue to recruit other young adults.

Danielle Scollins, Coordinator of Prevention and Community Education, is spearheading this group. Scollins said; “Our goal of the Young Adult Advisory Council was to center and uplift young adult voices in our community, Our Young Adults who are already in the council care about our mission as much as we do. It’s important for us as providers to take a step back, provide the information and see what they can do with it in a way that is more innovative than we could ever think of!”

Jada Lawrence-Galloway, Womanspace child specialist, who is also leading the group, talks about her goals of the group; "The goal of the Young Adult Advisory Council is to ensure that the youth have a platform for their ideas and voices to be heard. As providers, we hope to empower and equip the youth to communicate about domestic violence and sexual assault."

YAAC is still looking for about six more members.  If interested in applying, please contact Danielle via email ( for further discussion as well as an application.  Apply today!
