The undergraduate student bodies made their foray into the world of hash-setting this past 
weekend with an intriguing hash-style practice run.  The trail was mildly entertaining despite 
the exceedingly BORING terrain.  However, the cookies and milk (2% and skim!) served 
afterward did leave a sour taste in all mouths (save Safe Sweat's).  Speaking of Safe 
Sweats, did you notice that these naïve youngsters managed to set a trail that could be 
followed without the need for even one hint?!  Nor did they make any pretense of having 
actually set a hash by serving Lite Beer!  The Floundering Four set their practice run as a 
pack, allaying trepidation among the veterans who understood the potential danger of 
combining Roessler's mindlessness with Brewer's indefatigability.  The "Would-Be" hares 
used 25 lbs of flour, of which only about 5 or 6 ended up on their bodies, not a bad ratio 
considering the additional surface area.  The Geezer was actually considering making an 
exception in his stringent hash accounting rules and giving each student a 1/2 set instead of 
a 1/4, until the milk and cookies were served.  Now they will probably be knocked off his 
hashlist entirely and their first semester Orgo grades will undergo serious review.  The 
practice run was relatively successful with only a few glaring shortcomings.  The setters' 
gargoyle imitation at Brewer's predictable endless false trail across the Washington Road 
Bridge was sadly lacking in any nudity.  The ice floe canal crossing lost time for those 
brave(/foolish) souls who followed the true trail instead of short-cutting around.  (Such 
ineptitude has not been witnessed since Dr. No's Roam For Foam IV!)  And Vogl's 
capricious new mark-->
still has us baffled, but we learned that it wasn't a good
thing when one was encountered.  Overall, the wannabes appear ready to set a real hash, 
and should be given an opportunity, sometime before the Orgo final.
