STEVENSON HALL HHH HASH #98 Date: June 15, 1986 Weather: Hot, very humid Set by: Stu Sharp Runners: Bob Pascal, Jim Gibson, MJ, Andy Kaufman, MJ, III, Ned Jackson, Evy Parker, Jerome Mertz, Dan Wachspress, Dave Effross "First to Cooler" Joe Burns, Pascal, Gibson, the geezer... Description, comments: Where the hell is Assumpink? I don't know, but it's a long way away. Somewhere in South America, I think. That would fit in with the heat and humidity, both of which were equatorial. There were interestingly tatooed natives, too, who seemed to be victims of tooth pulling rituals and other weird practices. Speaking of weird practices, who ever heard of starting a hash with a one mile straight? Stu Sharp, that's who. And who ever heard of sprinting at the start of a hash? Dan Wachspress, that's who. At the end of that first desperate, hot, mile there were many anxious to do a little tooth pulling on old Stu. Rational behavior was not in good supply on this hash as many of the others tried to keep up with Wachspress along the endless sand trails of deepest Assumpink. Those who kept to a sensible hashing pace were rewarded as Evy and Andy loped into the lead while Dan and Mertz vanished down a road, and the LRF took a detour to search for rattlers in the sand. Dan was too winded after his start to do anything serious in the way of getting lost, and turned back to the pack, but Mertz quietly disappeared down the asphalt to emerge only after the rest were deep into the beer. The trail made a series of loops skirting the lake and winding around fields., ending at a native fishing village by the lake. It was a runners hash, and thus it was no surprise to see Pascal and Gibson first at the end, as they edged out the crafty geezer who shortcut across an EFM but faded at the end. Jaqson was lost in thoughts of unplottable MO's, and Mait III in contemplative meditation, as he prepared to join the Lhasa HHH, searching for Chang at 18,000 ft. I know that you all enjoy the intellectual tone of these newsletters, so I'll explain that Chang is Tibetan beer made from barley, and best enjoyed with rancid yak butter. Happily for us all the last rancid yak in Assumpink was shot last year and we were able to make do with Stu's ample Budweiser. Back to MJ's for an apres featuring tofu burgers a la Jaqqson and a deeply intellectual discussion of the virtues of urine and newspaper as disinfectants. Next Hashes: #99 Sunday, June 22 at 10 am (NOTE ODD TIME!!) Pascal sets, so bring snake oil. #101 Sunday, June 29 at 4:00 pm. Wachspress sets.
