PHHH# 914.4 Date: Sunday, December 29, 2002 Weather = Nice for the date Hare = Discomfort or Solo Hounds = Hey Yo!, Wacko, Nuttin Stucco, Dancing Foolo, and Brad (Dummer). Trail was good through thickets, farm field, a little pavement for good measure. Best was near BMS, whole pack bit on false uphill, Paully found trail downhill by one-lane bridge. Into footpath and along (eventually over) stream. Through farm field and cross street to the beerless check (beer was promised, not offered). There was talk of bagging it then and there. Without beer, Paully went forth without lollygagging. Double cross a long way across field. Only Solo and Nuttin Stucco followed over to and through (around?) the little boys place. Half the pack packed into the Discomfort mobile (thankfully no one had to site on anyone's lap). Check on 601. Getting dark. Me and nuttin stuck left Solo at Route 601 and the entrance to the boys place (just north of 518). We had a good many mile run back to Pine Brae at least. I don't like those big dogs next door. Just so we can feel better (or not), how much further need we have ventured and which direction? Whatever. >>> and now this ... Some advice for the PHHH hash. 1. When you hit a beer break at 1:20 into a hash after an excellent trail and the hare says, "There is quite a bit left, do you want to bag it?" what should you do? BAG IT!! The temptation to continue is great but only once in twenty years do I remember it being worthwhile. 2. If you are on a Discomfort hash and you find yourself wading through an ice cold stream, then you are not on a Discomfort hash - you are on a Hand Solo hash masquerading as a Discomfort Hash. Brace yourself. 3. Never underestimate how thick-headed Wacko is. Despite numerous obvious telltale hints that Solo had set this hash, (remember, he set the last Discomfort hash), it didn't dawn on me until Discomfort drove us from the beer check to within 1 mile from Solo's house and told us to continue from there. Amidst my rantings of "Hey, this is practically at Solo's house?! He could run straight home!!" it finally dawned on me. Nuf said - it was an EXCELLENT trail, I truly regret Rambo couldn't join us - we had two river crossings, ample snowball fights, icy embankments dropping off into 32 deg water, fences to jump, thick pine infested woods - the first 1 hr 20 minutes was fantastic. Then Solo, Paully and alas, Nuttin' Stuck set off determined to run the rest. Discomfort didn't realize Nuttin' Stuck was with Solo and Paully - a tragic mistake because he's the only one we really care about. Solo is a madman, it took him 2 hours and 15 minutes to run the hash he had set, and best I can tell, since his car was at home and he arrived at the start on foot - he must have set the whole damn thing in the morning and then run back to the start and then ran the 2 hrs and 15 minute trail back to his house!! Is this true Solo?! How many HOURS were you out running Sunday?! You may have done a marathon! You are truly a sick man! Those who got a lift at 1 hour and 20 ran one final mile to the ONIN at Solo's house and enjoyed some chili and hot chocolate once Solo arrived just before sunset. [Solo's response: Mad, yes, but not that mad. I set it the day before. Also Discomfort gave me a ride to the beer check just in time to run to the start from there. Plus don't forget this was a joint set - Discomfort ran a live hare marking trail on 518. Rambo really shoulda been there, we needed his legendary trail-seeking abilities.]
