Run: #816.4 Date: March 11, 2001 Hare: Supposedly Solo Pack: lotsa sudents--Yellow Ball, Anthony, Neil, Emma; Rojo, Wacko, Discomfort, Lllloda; Visitors (from DC Hash) Scott and Big Bang; Latecomer--Juicy; and not seen by the pack, but reported to be a latecomer still out running--Hey Yo Pauly Weather: cool--warm--cool--cold Time: a short 1 hr. 55 min Start: Mountain View Plaza on 206 N.(past Belle Mead Inn) Taking into account that most of us are not as quick as he, Solo estimated the run to be "a hair over an hour." The pack set off and was quickly confused by a couple of falses set into what appeared to be good hashing terrain. It was there we lost Rojo and Wacko, while the others crossed back to the parking lot side of 206 and found some flour a quarter mile down the RR track. Of the main pack, that left seasoned hashers Llloda and Discomfort to oversee the students and visitors and make sure they found the marks after the checks. On into an old munitions / toxic waste storage area, with plenty of good terrain....some calf-deep stream and mud crossings--the hare couldn't seem to find any that were waist deep. A good photo op on the trail was clearly labelled with flour, but no camera had been provided. Additionally, so no one would be disappointed, there was a stretch of suburban road running. It was there that Rojo rejoined the group, having spotted us earlier from the wrong side or a tall, barb-wired fence. But Wacko was still missing. Had he driven all the way from Lawrenceville just to get away from the kids and hang around in the shopping center parking lot? No. He had a PLAN. During the beginning of the hash he hid in the woods, then sneaked off and followed Solo, to see: a) if Solo really was the hare, and b) how to cut off 90% of the run. He stayed hidden while Solo laid a few finishing touches of flour which led towards the on-in, which was too close to the start to be set until the runners were out of the way. Wacko broke the silence by shouting, "Solo, I'm lost." Wacko and late-arriving Juicy basically ran the trail backwards and caught up with the pack towards the end of the run. Plenty of bones were found on the trail, and a handsome set of antlers for Anthony's dorm room-- or maybe he's saving them for Mother's Day. Plenty more RR track. After 1 hr. 45 on the trail, the pack, by unspoken agreement, slowed to a walk. Wacko almost successfully convinced everyone but the students (who had continued running) to head back to the cars and forget the on-in, but then, not too far in the distance, a cry of "On In" could be heard in the woods. Except for Paully, all were accounted for and partook of the usual fare. This is the longest trail I have set in the Princeton Hash--I knew if I made it only an hour, like last time, Wacko would suspect it wasn't really Solo's.
