(A guest writer this week. See if you can guess who. - TUH) PRINCETON HHH HASH #702.4 Date: February 28, 1999 Weather: Edible Venue: Washington Crossing State Park (Jersey side) Time: 61 min. Set By: Speedbumps Hashers: Hey Yo! Paully!, Juicy Peep, Table Toes, Wrong Way, Wacko, Ice Blue Balls, Tree, Darby, RoJo, Throat Deep, A Joy to His Mother, Discomfort, Tropical Depression, Pyroman Descriptions, Polemics, and Lies: Mud Flap Sunday's hash began in an appropriate manner: a leaden day, drizzle mixing with cloud cover that promised to be cold, bleak, and dreary. Perfect. The usual halfminds showed up (any hasher with a grain of common sense -- and any rookie worth his salt -- was firmly ensconced in an armchair by a raging fire, metaphorically speaking, anyway). The vast majority of the hounds (led by Joy, naturally) became lost simply trying to find the beginning, giving the hash a promising start. Wacko showed up with Wrong Way somewhere on or near the first flour, instilling a vague hope that there IS hashing after babies. Occasionally. Speedbumps whined about the fact that while everyone always assumes that Pyro helps HER to set, she never receives any credit for helping HIM set. I would suggest to her to be a little louder about claiming credit where credit is due! Instead of bashfully looking at the ground when you are lauded for setting a shiggy-filled, thornful run, thrust out your chest, stretch those legs, and claim, "Yes! My delightful brain is behind the swamp-eating miles of Pyro's brawn-ahem-I mean set!" The run commenced with the vast majority of people standing around uselessly as a few brave souls (whose names unfortunately escape me as I was ignoring them while I stared at the rain) sniffed around for the trail. Once on, the hash was filled with devious loops and turns. All the hashers but two were able to stay on the trail simply by going in whichever direction they chose -- bountiful loops of flour allowed full autonomy. Unfortunately, Joy and Tropical were unable to see the flour before their noses, and ran several additional miles while searching for the hollering crowd. There was no trespassing. Things might have become vaguely illegal had Tree broken her leash and eaten the lab (who mournfully watched hashers run by sans him or his owners) but, alas, the leash held firm. Naturally, IceBlueBalls mastered the situation with no difficulty whatsoever, never for a moment thinking her gentle hound would break free to lay even a tiny little tooth on the back of the (slobbering) lab. The territory boasted the occasional hill. There were even a few trees. No trash was seen on the ground! Mud abounded. SpeedBumps chose well... The on-in was wet, cold, and dark. However, Hey, Yo! Paully! was happy to provide further illumination into his twisted soul as he confounded hashers with his usual tension-fraught remarks. Replaying an increasingly familiar refrain, Tropical jumped into the fray of oddness and threatened to glue Paully's pecker to the ceiling, to hang in abeyance next to the delightful colored peeps provided by the hare. Paully declined, and I do believe a moment of panic strayed across his face before he realized what fun might ensue. At 4:25, Pyro and Speedbumps jumped up and said, "Run for your cars! The gates close at 4:30!" With no visible remorse, they jumped into their car, not only stranding the vast majority of hashers, but giving out deliberately misleading directions to the start. Happily, ThroatDeep led the confused hounds safely in the direction of the cars. TableToes and Juicy brought up the rear, whipping the pack on to safety.
