PRINCETON HHH HASH #693.4 Date: December 27, 1998 Weather: shrouded Venue: Trenton Time: 1:11 Set By: Pyroman Hashers: Pete (?) Dayton, Speed Bumps, Toxic Waste, Throatwarbler, Geezer, LLLoda, Rubberalan, Wrong Way, Tabletoes, Wacko, Eyesore. Second wave: Hey Yo!! Paully Visitors: Bill Panton (KL H3) and Steve Billsoninlaw Descriptions, Polemics, and Lies: Oh man, this was something between a vintage T-shirt contest and a convention of geriatrics. We have our resident geriatric in the Geezer of course, but all sorts of wheezing small g geezers came out of the woodwork for this Pyrorun through the 'hood. Invasion of the "W" people: Toxic Waste, Wrong Way, Wacko, and ThroatWarber Mangrove all made rare appearances. An hour of all-concrete mean streets led to a nice crossing of the Mighty Delaware (unfortunately by bridge), and an apres at Chez Pyro where our KL visitor revealed that the PH3 (nee Stevenson Hall HHH) was not only the oldest hash in Princeton, NJ, but the 16th oldest in the US of A. We are a great granddaughter of the Mother Hash in KL (KL--->Jakarta--->Medan---> Princeton). And so we end the Year of the Whine.Aappropriately enough, Toes' feet got wet (in Trenton?- must have been blood), and he complained. I don't want to reveal too many secrets, but this hash features prominantly in the "Remark of the Year" category in the '98 EOY Report. Stay tuned. ybs FROM TUMBLIN' BILL: ( a better write-up than ybs's) >Hi, Geezer. > >Good to hear from you - I have now entered your hash in our Annals of Hashdom >as follows: > >Princeton HHH, formerly Stevenson Hall HHH until 1988, born October 10 1979 to >Founding Father Joe 'Hop-along' Burns out of Medan H3 as Hash Mother. > >This makes your PH3 a great grand-daughter of the Kuala Lumpur Mother Hash >[1938] through Jakarta H3 [1971] and Medan [1973]. PH3 is the third of nine >daughters of MH3. > >I will be submitting the following write-up for inclusion in the Royal >Selangor Club H3 Hash Trash after my return to KL later this month: > > >Princeton HHH, New Jersey USA > >When I called for directions I was advised to meet in the car park at the rear >of Stephenson Hall, within the grounds of the hallowed academic institution >for which the town is famous. This led me to imagine that I would enjoy a nice >scenic run in and around the quiet upper class neighborhoods of the old town >and surrounding green fields of the Garden State. Was I mistaken! The hare of >the day had chosen his home town as the run venue - Trenton. Now this ugly, >depressed, working class city, only a short distance from Princeton, could >have been a continent apart. > >So, twenty minutes later, our small convoy drew up in a municipal car par park >on the edge of the Delaware River at the center of Trenton. The small pack [15 >in all, including two visitors, two virgins and a small boy], were advised >that the run was an A to B, and that we should stay together, for reasons of >safety, I surmised. > >So, off we went, on what turned out to be an interesting urban run, entirely >through a maze of grimy streets and along occasional railroad tracks. >Actually, it was a well planned, one hour ten minute course, with plenty of >checks to keep the FRB's nicely exercised while giving ample opportunities for >the Tail-end Charlies to play catch-up. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed it. In >some respects the urban jungle can be as challenging as the real stuff. > >It was a cold, overcast day, and around the halfway point the pack was treated >to a welcome trot through the warm confines of the Trenton Amtrak station >hall. The final run-in over one of the Delaware River bridges was also a >relief, leading to the Hares apartment in Morrisville, on the Pennsylvania >side of the river. Basic fare of hot chili beans and crackers went down well >with the beer at the indoor On-on. > >I was interested to learn that the PH3 is one of the older US hashes [actually >the 16th], founded in 1979 by Joe 'Hop-along' Burns, formerly of the Medan >HHH. Several of the inaugural run members are still going strong, including >Maitland 'Geezer' Jones who is perhaps the best contact for a visiting >hashperson, at 609 924-6533 [H] or 609 258-3909 [O], or try Dan 'Wacko' >Wachpress at 609 406-1792 [H] or 609 734-9282 #114 {O]. A warm, friendly >welcome is guaranteed. > > >Oooon-on, > >Tumbling Bill.
