The Gospel According to Pastor Tom:

  And on the thirteenth day, a great crying arose from the pack.  "This is
bogus!" they cried.  And The Man was heard to say: "Oh, you're just
running?  Well, watch out for the ticks."  And yea verily, the hashers did
speak in tongues, crying "On-On" and "Are you" and "Checking."

  And the hashers did trespass, and there was a great honking of horns from
the yellow truck, and the train did obscure the vision and hearing of all
who were present.

  And the pack was rent from bottom to top, each thinking that the other
half of the pack was ahead of it, or perhaps behind it.  And Justin son of
Shmuel did entangle himself in great and terrible shiggy.

  And it did get dark, and Julie daughter of Maria did almost finish, but
the disciples Dave friend of Justin, Justin friend of Dave, and Joy son of
His Mother did get lost in the dark woods, and underage girls did hit on
them fiercely.

  And they all enjoyed Pace salsa in the dark until it was time for Pastor
Tom's sermon.  And the sermon was great and terrible, but the hashers did
suffer it well and bravely.  Jesus was Tom's treasure in the field, and
though the hashers had not yet found the true trail, there was hope for
them yet.  Jesus could fill the hole in their running pants if they would
accept him into their... well, maybe it lost something in the translation
from the Greek.

  And Pastor Tom did drive away in his Ford Explorer, leaving the hashers
to murmur amongst themselves.
