PRINCETON HHH HASH #617.4 Date: July 23, 1997 Weather: Pathetic Venue: Rocky Hill Time: 2 hours? (can't read my watch in the dark) Set By: A Joy to His Mother Hashers: A Joy to His Mother, Wendy Sullivan, Bang Him Harder, Andrew Vaughn, English as a Second Language, Delay LLLama, Meg North, Paul Dimeglio, Hey Yo! Paully!, Birk Huber Descriptions, Polemics, and Lies: No Joy in Mudville It was almost explicable. It was as if an invisible fog had descended on the half-mind of the hare, causing him to set a bizzare, convoluted trail with not nearly enough marks. Now you might say "Well, a trivial problem like not seeing any marks has never stopped the PHHH before!" And you would be right. But this was no ordinary half-mind-clouding invisible fog. The same fog that clouded the half-mind of the hare was doubly strong on the half-minds of the hounds (you do the math). They did, to their credit, manage to find the true trail, even after missing the F at the end of the first false trail. They never got into a rhythm, though -- they would see two or three random marks, then a check mark or nothing. It apparently did not occur to them to: - disregard plain arrows - consider the possibility that false trails may lead away from check marks - think - go away from, not towards, the gun club - run - look for marks The fog became thicker and thicker, eventually spreading to the hounds' running muscles, which became disabled almost entirely. At one point, the hare was heard to compare the hounds to extras on a movie set: "OK, wander around aimlessly! Action!" Pathetic. In the end, a nice gentleman showed us how to get out to Herrontown road via his driveway, and we took a shortcut past some darkening woods. Even though we picked up the trail less than a mile from the finish, we managed to lose Hey Yo! Paully! entirely (we'll bring you an extra beer for next time, brave soul). In the last inexplicable move of the night, the insatiable hounds proved themselves incapable of following simple street directions to the On-In, instead picking up the trail and promptly losing it two blocks later.
