PRINCETON HHH HASH #608.4 Date: May 25, 1997 Weather: Wet and Wild Venue: Playwicky Park - Langhorne PA Time: 1:09 Set By: Ro Jo Hashers: Melissa Lockman, English As A Second Language, Adam Kessel Wacko, A Joy To His Mother, Hans Hull, In Up To His Waist, Glory Rookies: Matt SWEPT AWAY "The Geezer Man is dead?!?!" responded Niall in horror. "No... Van. The Geezervan is dead?!?! Not the Geezer MAN," corrected RoJo. "WHAT?!?! Now that is a tragedy." Alas - I had so little time this week for HASH TRASH that this epic hash has gone by without the requisite accolades! The goddess of rain co-operated fully by dropping ample H20 on our intrepid pack who had made the journey to Langhorne, PA's "Playwicky Park". "You won't be able to shortcut this one," lied RoJo at the start, as the trail sliced between two sets of railroad tracks (one abandoned). The hilly terrain, so unusual to us New Jerseyans, was a slippery, slimy muddy miasma, with marks (advertised as on trees but in fact) typically bird-dropping-sized white dots of marshmallow consistency on the fringes of the trail. The slipping and sliding as we traversed up and down the slick, grades was compounded by the sure-footed four-footed wonder, Glory, who would invariably knock over several of the human "hounds" while prancing back and forth. But Glory would get hers. Eventually we up and crossed the abandoned tracks and soon heard English as a Second Language excitedly pronouncing that he had spotted an arrow! Quite a feat considering the disintegration of the marks. But the real excitement was that the arrow pointed into a stream for what was the first of several glorious water crossings of flooded waterways. No sooner did we get our feet (and other parts) wet, when we were subjected to a forced march unlike any in PHHH history. The mud in this field was not the worse we've seen, it didn't suck your shoes right off, but it did suck out any energy you might have had, and it did have a high adherence coefficient, as your legs tired both from added weight and constant sinking in below the ankles. It was enough to make you want to lie down and die. But all slogged through and then up and down a few more hills until we were back into the swollen brooks, listening to RoJo's "Yikes!!" as she saw ankle deep rivulets now up to our waists!!! When Kessel pointed out that he didn't know how to swim the anxiety factor raised a little, but Adam proved not to be the weak link -- it was Glory who was swept away at the last crossing -- saved from eventual exhaustion (she kept trying to swim against the current instead of to the opposite bank) by Melissa (the rest of us were already pulling out the beer and chips). Too bad RoJo didn't take us past the dead half-a-dog -- then it would have been a really good hash. NEXT HASHES: VOLUNTEER TO SET NOW.
