PRINCETON HHH HASH #569.4 - for those willing to brave repeat messages

                            The Quick and the Dead

The theory behind hashing is that the trail is convoluted enough and
filled with enough checks, loops and false trails that it takes even
a quick group of runners over an hour to complete 4 miles, meaning
that one could actually walk the entire way at a brisk clip if 
patient enough.  Therefore, when rookie Larry winced when told that
he should be able to keep up if he could run 3 nine minute miles, it
still seemed likely that he might have an outside chance.  "Consecutively?"
he opined, nervously.  Unfortunately, one further condition to keeping 
up rarely considered is some knowledge of what is in store during the
run.  Whereas a veteran might be able to walk the trail, a rookie has
little chance.  However, in fact, Larry did manage to hang on for the
entire jaunt which deftly maneuvered through every patch of forest
available within a one mile radius of maison de Wacko.  Yes, Larry needed
one lift at one point and, yes, he did break down and accept a
bicycle from the hare toward the end, but in fact, it was the Dying
Gerbil Man who was abandoned atop a mountain in the National Guard
Preserve who had to psyche the trail solo - catching the pack only
due to mass stupidity on the Rider University campus and In Up To His
Waist's lack of conditioning after his long absence from our trails.

The trail looped back to Wacko's backyard where all the hashers weighed-in
except for I'm So Dirty who adhered herself to the patio furniture while
242 tried to wrestle her to the scales.  Larry tipped the scales at 220 
while TFM impressed one and all by pushing up above 205.  Wacko barely
topped 150 while the rest were in the 160's.
