                        HILLBILLY HELL

        Starting out from "the former Hillbilly Hall", now masquerading as
an Italian restaurant, but with no obvious change in menu or personnel from
days past, the pack might have feared encounters with gun-toting, trigger-
happy idiots with slavering, muscle-jawed, toothy and tireless hounddogs.
However, the only illiterate morons encountered on this week's escapade
were among the pack.  Marks were abundant for the first 20 minutes' run 
through light snow comvering a molten highland swamp, but as the trail
broke into a partial clearing criss-crossed with trails, the pack spread out
in confusion.  The Geezer and Wacko headed east, without a single mark of
encouragement, and disappeared for an appropriate length of time.  The rest 
of the pack dutifully searched the criss-cross, all of which seemed false.
The critical moment came when the LRF and LFBB were running down the correct
trail and were stopped by either TFM or Eyesore, who said, "Don't go there,
there's an F down that trail."  Some 15 minutes later, the LRF concluded
that not all of the scouting had been of the highest quality, and rechecked 
that trail, finding not an F, but a double cross.  The rest of the pack
failed to heed his ON,ON!!, having been swallowed by the wilderness, and the
LRF completed the trail alone, returning to Hillbilly Hall after 50 min.
        The remaining runners, save Wacko, eventually recognized the problem,
and after 90 minutes or so everyone had made it to the end, where they dined
on buffalo wings and beer while pondering the fate of their lone lost comrade. 
It was not until the diligent hashers and hares had made several foot-and-
automobile searches of the 5-square-mile block of frozen forest encompassing
the trail that the laggard Wacko appeared, nearly 2.5 hours since the start,
and babbling something about a gigantic loop that we had all missed.  Sure.
