Princeton HHH HASH # 299.4 Date: February 24, 1991 Weather: Maternal Set by: LRF Runners: Dr. No, Geezer, Luke,Wacko,Throatwarbler, Dinos, Bangkok "First to Cooler" Joe Burns Description, comments: MOTHER OF THORNS So it was described to us by the Reptile Fancier. Their barbs ever so sharp, treacherous mutant vines lay lurking in the brush eager to dig deep into the succulent flesh of unlucky runners. Mother Courage herself would quail before this threatening wall of pain. Mama Mia! Madre Dinos! came the screams as the Geezer became the first to become entwined in the dreadful plants. First, but not last, as Mother Goose, quite fetching in her Mother Hubbard, sailed across a particularly evil pond honking warnings unfortunately understood by none of us, as she was quacking away in her mother tongue. The result was that each mother’s son of us set out on this hash, heedless of the fresh motherwort underfoot, or of the disoriented Mother Carey’s chickens whirling away overhead. Past the holly tree from Hell, past the toilet of the trolls (III) we ran, until much vine thrashing later, we came to the biggest mother on the whole hash. It was Festus, a 400 pound good old boy just settin’ on his pickup, twirling his mother- of-pearl handled pistols and looking as threatening as Bogart in the high Sierra looking for the mother lode. But Festus just smiled benignly as we ran by, and handed his companion, Mother Teresa, another beer. At the end, there was the left-leaning, quiche-eating limp wrist himself, the LRF, sitting on the cooler reading his latest copy of Mother Jones. I want my mommy!
