PRINCETON HHH HASH #281.4 Date: Oct. 14, 1990 Weather: Wobbly Set by: Bo Diddle Runners: Cohen, Geezer, LRF, Dr. No, Luke Rookies: Scott Pedersen, No's Pal from Saudi Arabia, No's Pal's Friend, Geoff's Pal. "First to Cooler" Joe Burns Bo's Learning Hashing When last he set, Bo came in for a substantial amount of abuse as Hash #271.4 turned out to be a FUBAR nightmare. What we hadn't stopped to consider was the influence of his unindicted co-conspirator, Toxic Waste. [Do you realize that Richard Nixon is still at large?] Evidence would now suggest that the myriad screw-ups of last August might more reasonably be laid at the flat feet of old Toxic hisself, because Bo did OK this time. Bo appeared nervous, though, as he began to babble at the start about hideous thorns and weird marks necessary to keep us from being torn apart by the impenetrable bush. It's a Hash, Bo, not to worry; a few wounds never hurt anyone, and the vampire back- check should be in the repertory of every setter. The trail led initially through the woods to the sylvan shores of Sylvia Lake, close by the Ewing Township sewage disposal center (nice touch, Bo). Across the dam sped the runners, certain in their collective mind that no setter would avoid forcing them through the turgid waters oozing across the slime-covered concrete. But no, it was a false and back again we went, sneakers dissolving with every footfall in the evil liquid. The thorns hit as we found our way to the shores of Shabunkunk Creek, and many a fearful cry there was as the dreaded "go back" mark was found ("Don't worry, had said Bo, you'll never be able to get that far.") Back we went, mercifully to run through the creek, taking the less well-known left fork to still more thorns, and a splendid potential Effross-trap, a tunnel of vines doubtless sufficient to bind the Great Hulk forever. Out again, along Bull Run Road to the Ewing Vo-Teck School (Bo-Teck?), across a field guarded by a particularly evil-looking dog (who took an especial liking to Doctor No, sniff, sniff) to roads, soybeans, dead trucks, vine-enveloped barns and the beer.
