STEVENSON HALL HHH HASH #122 Date: April 12, 1987 Weather: unassuming Set by: Courtney, Pushner Runners: Smith, Dilley, Patton, Wachspress, Burns, the Geezer, Kaufman, Effross, McCart, Quackenbush, Tarlach, Ryan, Gibson, Hiser "First to Cooler" Joe Burns , Hiser Description, comments: This hash, a virtual gerontocracy of returned vets and crafty, longtime SHHH runners started at St. Joe's in Kingston. One might have expected the sly old masters to have out pysched their less experienced cousins, but that would be without reckoning either with faded skills or the special nature of the end of this hash. Once blessed by the Saint, the pack ran immediately into woods, trampling myriad spring beauties, trout lillies and bloodroots----and becoming lost. Marks seemed secondary to aimless thrashing amidst the flowers until Aqueduct Road was found. The trail entered the woods and crossed to the canal path -- a well known cul-de-sac. Effross and Hiser led the group into the obvious trap while some more worldly wise kept to the road, waiting for the pack to emerge, as they thought it must. Their craft was rewarded with a missed short cut across the concrete edge of the canal lock--the site of poor Andy Porges' demise in 1981 when the Geezer threw him into the canal on the infamous hash #9, set by Andy Kaufman and the Aethereal One. By now, neither Kaufman nor the A.O., all too Corporeal these days, was anywhere to be seen, and Wachspress, Gibson, Smith and the Geezer were off on a long looping trap leading to the Harrison St. Bridge, so easily reached via the short cut. Wachspress vanished running past an "F" and Gibson and Smith came upon Effross and Hiser running up Fitzrandolph road. Effross and Hiser had taken the short cut and thus had an immense lead on the rest of the pack. Their checking must have been singularly inept for them to be still in sight at this point, but then that's no great surprise. The trail ran past Stevenson into campus and then briefly faked into town before running straight to the setters' room in Spelman. Hiser looked Courtney and Pushner up in the directory, asked the campus cops for an escort and was delivered right to the end. Next Hashes: #123, Sunday, April 19. The Easter Keg Hunt.
