Talking Points for Your DEIS Comments

Sample Letter
A short statement in favor of Alternative D2 at the public hearing would be appreciated. Statements from individual members of your organization are also appreciated. Talking points and questions to ask in your letters and public comments will be available if you need them (Note: the DOT must answer your questions). Please feel free to either use the sample letter or to use it as a basis for your own letter.

Comments concerning the DEIS may be submitted until August 1, 2003.

Questions to consider:

Why isn't mercury mentioned in the water quality sections?

Where was the reference sample for Millstone and D&R Canal taken? Were other samples taken? Where? When was the sampling done?

Why haven't they modeled water quality change of Millstone for an environmentally benign alternative, like D-2? The models are only for the worst possible cases.

Why have repeated requests for a biological survey been ignored in spite of fact that the region is such an environmental asset?

If an alternative exists (like D-2) that solves the DOT objectives that is environmentally benign, why not select that one?

Because the Roundtable process was described as open and transparent, why weren't the DOT alternatives of Nov. 27, 2002 presented to the Roundtable?

There are a lot of cars on Washington Road during rush hour for D-2. That is used as an argument against the environmentally benign D-2. Given that there is insignificant difference in congestion between D and D-2, are the extra cars important? Are the extra cars assumed to be there because they have moved from an East Side Connector which attracts extra traffic? Would Washington Road attract the same amount of traffic, especially with traffic calming as will be done for Harrison Street?
