One of the first books I read in this program was about a very special person. I would like to tell you about him, since this is one of my favorite books. His name is John James Audubon, who is famous for his beautiful paintings of birds. He loved to watch the birds in the woods. When he was supposed to be doing his schoolwork, they couldn't keep him out of the forest because he like to sketch birds. He never stopped drawing and painting lovely works. He was a great painter. He and his family lived on the Hudson River in New York, but he traveled everywhere to see different kinds of birds. His goal was to draw every American Bird. His important book, Birds of America, contains more than 400 drawings of birds. If you would like to know more about him, you can read John James Audubon by Margaret and John Kieran.
