44th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast

The Rev. Dr. Charles F. Boyer of Greater Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Trenton, gives the keynote speech. Theme for the 2025 celebration is "Empowering Change: Building a Future of Justice and Equality." All proceeds support the nonprofit organization providing scholarships and book awards for area high school students who are pursuing higher education. Register. $75.

PPPL’s Science On Saturday Lecture Series

The Ronald E. Hatcher Science On Saturday Lecture Series returns to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) this year to offer lectures to science fans of all ages. Talks run from 9:30-11 a.m., which includes a presentation and Q&A. The talks are held online and in person at the Melvin B. Gottlieb Auditorium in PPPL’s Lyman Spitzer Building, located at 100 Stellarator Road in Princeton, New Jersey. Register here for the Zoom link for all the talks.

Feb. 1: “Developing Systems for Mitigating Aquatic Microplastic Pollution,” Yidian Liu, PolyGone Systems

PolyGone Systems is a Princeton University spinout cleantech company that provides systematic solutions for aquatic microplastic pollution. We have developed an affordable, portable, and environmentally friendly filtration system that captures microplastics below 1mm scale and can be applied to a wide range of water bodies, including rivers, lakes, and wastewater effluents.

Trenton Walks - Chambersburg and Villa Park

Walkers will get a taste of Chambersburg and Villa Park on this Saturday morning walk that starts at 9:30 a.m. at Unity Square (formerly Columbus) Park. Walkers will move on to Villa Park, then loop back to Unity Square Park, celebrating the Chambersburg and Villa Park neighborhoods. Leading the 1.9 mile walk will be Becky Taylor and Tim Brill, co-chairs of the Trenton Walks! and Shereyl Snider, community engagement lead for the East Trenton Collaborative.

Groundhog Day Celebration, The Watershed

Join Watershed Wally the Woodchuck as we celebrate winter and look forward to the return of spring. Learn all about groundhogs, enjoy a hike to a groundhog hole, and try your hand at chucking wood with a catapult or trebuchet. Warm yourself by our campfire and enjoy some treats on this festive winter morning. Patches are available for purchase in the gift shop on the day of the program. Ages 5 and up. Trenton Creatives Networking Brunch

Building on the success of recent creative initiatives like the Trenton Pop Up Market and the Art of Matloc Art Show Fundraiser, Isles, Inc., in partnership with Much Better Studios will host the Trenton Creatives Networking Brunch on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 125 South Warren St in Trenton. This event will highlight the "Trenton Arts in Focus" plan for the Creek to Canal Creative District and continue the momentum of the successful Trenton Pop Up Market series.

The event is free and open to the public and is funded by the Downtown Trenton Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (NRTC) program through the NJ Department of Community Affairs.

Winter Sowing Workshop, Friends of Princeton Nursery Lands

Itching to get your hands in some soil? Join Friends of Princeton Nursery Lands (FPNL) & Master Gardener Lynn Grillo for a hands-on workshop on winter sowing, a technique for growing seeds outside in winter, using recycled jugs as mini greenhouses. We will learn the technique, prepare some jugs, and plant seeds for native wildflowers for everyone to take home and grow. Bring work gloves and a utility knife (box cutter) if you have one. Capacity limited.

Clifford Ward: I'LL MAKE ME A WORLD, prologue, Artworks Trenton

Opening reception for exhibition that brings together selected works from multiple series of works by Ward, celebrating the intersection of Ward's artistic journey with the imaginative and forward-looking spirit of Afrofuturism. Curated by Addison Vincent, artistic director of Artworks, this exhibition represents a unique collaboration between Artworks Trenton and Grounds For Sculpture. The Artworks Trenton exhibition is a first look at select pieces to be featured in GFS' upcoming exhibition, "Clifford Ward: I'll Make Me a World," opening in May. On view through April 12.
