12th Annual Sourland Spectacular

The cycling event at the Watershed Institute (www.thewatershed.org) on September 9th will feature both staggered starts and lunches. Riders may begin when they would like between 7:00–10:00am in order to complete their route in time for lunch. Pre-event coffee and breakfast will be followed by lunches served from 11:00 until 2:00. The lunch will, of course, be capped by their famous ice cream sundaes. Riders will surely have earned it!

Ticket package includes rest stops, two meals, a gourmet ice cream sundae, Support And Gear, and swag.

The Sourland Conservancy (https://sourland.org/) hope you will join this year—cycling through the gorgeous forest and farmland of the historic Sourlands, for a challenging yet rewarding ride. Proceeds from the event will help support their tremendous forest restoration effort, now underway. Over the last three years, the Sourland Conservancy has planted over 29,000 trees and shrubs and hopes to plant 12,000 trees and shrubs this year!

Helene Cody Cranbury 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run

The Helene Cody Cranbury 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run is held on a flat and fast course in the tree-lined streets and parks of Cranbury, NJ. The 5K is chip-timed and takes place on a USATF-certified course with a water station that is passed twice. It is perfect for runners and walkers of all levels, from elite runners looking to score a personal record to those who want to try a 5K for the first time. The 1 Mile Fun Run takes place in Heritage Park, making it a great race for walkers, beginner runners, and kids of all ages and their parents.

We are proud to celebrate Helene's legacy with the proceeds of the race funding the Helene Cody Scholars program, which provides leadership training, mentoring, scholarships, and project funding for high school students selected to complete a high-impact community service project in central NJ.

New Jersey State Button Society's Fall Show and Competition

On Saturday, September 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ,the New Jersey State Button Society (NJSBS) will showcase how collectors learn to love buttons. At “Button Beginnings—and Black Glass,” a large display will feature antique black glass buttons specially curated from the extensive collection of Ruth Berry, as well as examples of other prize-winning trays in the black glass category. Three members -- Annie Frazier, Kelly Dobrinsky, and JoAnn Taylor -- will share their stories of what sparked their interest in the hobby and what turned them into collectors. For those who wish to learn more about their own buttons, attendees are invited to bring a sampling - up to a dozen - from their old button boxes or jars. Volunteers will be available from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. to help identify button materials. Free.

Saturday Walks on Lawrence Hopewell Trail

Hispanic Heritage Month Event

The Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund (LALDEF) is hosting a joint Heritage Month celebration and health fair event at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 151 Warren Street in Trenton, on September 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. LALDEF will offer free food, prizes, COVID-19 vaccines, flu and other back-to-school vaccines, and breast cancer screenings, as well as information on resources such as WIC (women, infants, children) services, health insurance enrollment, mental health services, and family support services.

Annual Insect Festival, Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County

Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County will sponsor the 2023 “Bugs Rule!” Insect Festival on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Mercer Educational Gardens, 431A Federal City Road, Hopewell Township. The festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Admission is free and on-site parking is available. Learn about the importance of insects in our lives and how they create the biological foundation for all terrestrial ecosystems through fun, hands-on activities!

Opening Reception: Knowledge is Power, ACP

Join the Arts Council of Princeton for the opening reception of Our Knowledge is Power: The Cultures of Beauty and Survival in Isle de Jean Charles, LA and Shishmaref, AK, on view in the ACP’s Taplin Gallery. Artist Dennis Davis and Chantel Comardelle have partnered together to bring us a multimedia exhibit showcasing the beauty of culture and the price of the climate crisis. The stunning images will introduce you to their communities and sacred traditions. The voice of elders and stories of seasons past will transport you to a time when life was less complex.
