Zionism: An Emotional State, The Ruth and Alvin Rockoff Annual Lecture

Emotion lies at the heart of all national movements, and Zionism is no exception. Derek Penslar will discuss his new book, Zionism: An Emotional State, which explores how the Zionist movement originated from complex feelings that varied in volume, intensity, and durability across different regions and historical moments. The resulting portrait of Zionism reconfigures how we understand Jewish identity amid continuing debates on the role of nationalism in the modern world. Presented by the Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life at Rutgers University, the talk is free and open to the public and will be held at the Douglass Student Center, 100 George Street, New Brunswick.
