Vernal Pool Hikes, The Watershed

Saturday March 20, 2021
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Celebrate World Water Day with an exploratory 1.3-mile hike of vernal pools on the Watershed Reserve. Vernal pools are the gathering point of the spring thaw and rains and attract a small assortment of amphibians such as wood frogs and spotted salamanders. We might also find small invertebrates in the pools such as caddisflies, aquatic worms, and mosquitoes, which all play a part in these tiny habitats. Investigate these seasonal waters in search of these denizens and their eggs. Please register in advance; walk-ins will not be accepted. Waterproof boots are necessary. Ages 6 and up. Masks, social distancing, and adult attendance required. Discount available for members.
