Dedication Ceremony – Community Art Project, West Windsor Arts Center

Saturday October 17, 2020
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join us for the Dedication Ceremony for our Community Art Project – Art Against Racism: Memorial.Monument.Movement

We will view the installation of the community art project and hear from some of its organizers. Creators of squares will also be invited to speak. This event will also be shared Live on the WWAC Facebook page for remote participation. The West Windsor Arts Council and the African American Parent Support Group invited the greater West Windsor and Plainsboro community to participate in a community art project. No art experience was necessary to be a part of this effort to mark the West Windsor Arts Center as an anti-racist institution and to create community conversation. We created this project with the belief that everyone has a seat at the table and everyone’s voice is important!

COVID-19 precautions: Face masks are required and social distancing will be in place. This event is being held outdoors. Sign-in will be encouraged.

Day of the Dead Creative Workshop, Arts Council of Princeton

Saturday October 17, 2020
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Nichos & Calaveras

On Saturday, October 17, join us as we create Día de los Muertos nichos, a three-dimensional box used as a small, portable shrine to an important figure or loved one. Participants are encouraged to make the nicho their own by bringing old photos, trinkets, or artwork along with them. Jose Guadlupe Posada was a Mexican lithographer who created Mexico's most famous calavera, La Calavera Catrina, for posters, prints and other images. Catrina has become a beloved figure and iconic symbol of Day of the Dead. Learn the history behind skulls and skeletons as a representative image for Day of the Dead and embellish not only your own Catrina, but additional skeleton and skull projects.

Trenton Circus Squad "Step Right Up! Plugged In" Fundraiser

Saturday October 17, 2020
7:00 PM

On October 17, 2020, at 7:00 pm, Trenton Circus Squad will host its first ever virtual fundraiser, "Step Right Up! Plugged In." The COVID-19 pandemic has turned the world upside down -- every industry has been forced to make adjustments in order to remain in operation and the non-profit sector has been no different.

Trenton Circus Squad has been outfitted with cameras, microphones, and production equipment, to ensure that "Step Right Up! Plugged In" is just as high quality and engaging as our in-person experience. Ticketed attendees will enjoy watching as the Squad travels virtually around the state of New Jersey highlighting each of our partner organizations in Asbury Park, Newark, Camden, and Trenton. Through our Fund-A-Need auction, you can help support a year of our programming, always offered free to the community. You'll hear interviews with our partners, testimonies about our work, and witness moving performances from our youth participants inspired by our country's current state of civil unrest.
