Burning Down the House: Newt Gingrich, the Fall of a Speaker, and the Rise of the New Republican Party, 55-Plus Club of Princeton

Julian E. Zelizer has been among the pioneers in the revival of American political history. He is the Malcolm Stevenson Forbes, Class of 1941 Professor of History and Public Affairs at Princeton University and a CNN Political Analyst and a regular guest on NPR's "Here and Now." He is the author and editor of 20 books including, The Fierce Urgency of Now: Lyndon Johnson, Congress, and the Battle for the Great Society (2015), the winner of the D.B. Hardeman Prize for the Best Book on Congress. His most recent book is Burning Down the House: Newt Gingrich, The Fall of a Speaker, and the Rise of the New Republican Party. Zelizer, who has published over 1000 op-eds, has received fellowships from the Brookings Institution, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, the New York Historical Society, and New America. He also co-hosts a popular podcast called "Politics & Polls".

Film Screening and Director Talk: “Pine Mud”, Princeton Public Library

The Princeton Environmental Film Festival, sponsored by the Princeton Public Library, hosts this outdoor, socially-distanced screening of Jared Flesher's latest documentary "Pine Mud." The screening takes place in the courtyard of the Princeton Shopping Center. The event opens for seating at 7 pm, there will be a director talk at 7:30 pm, and the film will begin at sunset (approximately 8 pm).

This event is suggested for adults and high school students. Each person attending must register individually. The guidelines for socially distancing and the screening are on the registration form.

Virtual Summer Lecture Series: Bats: Creatures of the Night

Wildlife takes center stage in a summer series of webinar presentations. The Mercer County Park Commission Naturalist Department will bring online programming right to your home, focusing on wildlife that affects our lives, even in an urbanized environment. These programs are free; registration is required.

The Virtual Summer Lecture series will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. and conclude with a Q&A session for the public to ask questions about any of the topics after each program. Participants will be able to submit questions in advance of the program to krypkema@mercercounty.org.
