Boheme Opera, NJ Lecture Performance Series, Monroe TWP Public Library

From Opera to Broadway - This performance lecture would focus on the origins and development that occurred over the centuries that begin with classic opera, change into Victorian era operetta and then become classic and modern Broadway. Focus will be given to both the style and form that begins with operatic arias and becomes modern songs. Composers will include Mozart, Puccini, Lehar, Strauss, Kern and Gershwin.

Each lecture performance will include three performers, pianist, and narrator-lecturer. Each program will last one hour and be performed by Boheme Opera NJ under the auspices of the Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission. Performances will be held at the Monroe Township Library. Free

Annual Holiday Party, PSRC

Ring in the season with holiday merriment! 

Join us for a festive buffet while you mingle and jingle with the Ho Ho Ho’s and Dave Saltzman on the piano. Vanessa Viscomi of Joyful Sounds will perform holiday songs, both old and new. Transportation is available to and from the Suzanne Patterson Building by the FreeB Bus, Crosstown, or by carpool, all of which we encourage! Please let us know in advance if you plan to take the bus so we don’t exceed capacity. The festivities begin at 1:00 p.m. Because we cannot accommodate early arrivers, please note that our doors open at 12:45 p.m. We look forward to seeing you then.

Institute Film Series: Graduation

Romanian director Cristian Mungiu crafted a complex story of corruption and loyalty with his award-winning Graduation (original title: Bacalaureat). The film follows the brilliant daughter of a successful physician as she prepares for college. She has won a scholarship to Cambridge University, on the condition that she receives top grades in her final exams. A dramatic incident the day before the latter destabilizes her and jeopardizes her chances. Her distressed father is offered by a police official a deal to fix the exams' results.

Information Session, CASA

SPEAK UP FOR A CHILD! Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Mercer & Burlington Counties is currently seeking new volunteers! CASA for Children of Mercer & Burlington Counties is a non-profit organization that recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers who speak up in Family Court for the best interests of children that have been removed from their families due to abuse and/or neglect and placed in the foster care system. Our volunteers strive to ensure the physical, emotional, and educational well being of these children.
