Hunterdon County Historical Society’s Annual Rare Book and Map Sale

The Hunterdon County Historical Society is gearing up for the annual unique and rare book sale fundraising event at the Society’s headquarters at 114 Main Street, Flemington on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 9 am to 2 pm. This year’s sale is scheduled to take place to coincide with the Second Sunday Flea, Antiques, Treasures and Finds in downtown Flemington sponsored by the Flemington Community Partnership. www.exploreflemington.com.

This year’s sale includes some original editions and several rare books such as: George Washington’s Last Will and Testament, 1800; African Game Trails by Teddy Roosevelt, 1910 first ed.; The Gardener’s Kalendar, 1760; and The Marvelous Musical Prodigy, Blind Tom, the negro Boy Pianist, 1876. Also included in the sale are many genealogies, travel pamphlets, advertising cards, school books and almanacs.

Seeds of Hope CASA Brunch

Help Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties expand ongoing advocacy services and Fostering Futures for teens across our combined counties at the Seeds of Hope Brunch with special guest author, Shenandoah Chefalo on Sunday October 14 at Trenton Country Club, at 11am.

Ms. Chefalo is the author of GARBAGE BAG SUITCASE, a memoir of her journey to overcome great hardship as a child of neglectful, drug and alcohol-addicted parents. She managed to become among the one percent of foster children across the Nation to graduate from college. Tickets are $55 per person and support CASA’s programs for foster children. The early history of Princeton, the founding of the University and the American Revolution are just some of the stories from Princeton’s history that you will learn on your tour.

Tickets are $7. Advance purchase is recommended, as space is limited. Walk up ticket sales are cash only; guides cannot provide change.

Kairy Kosheva, Greater Princeton Steinway Society

The Greater Princeton Steinway Society will present pianist Kairy Kosheva in concert on Sunday, October 14, 2018. The event will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall at Jacobs Music, 2540 Brunswick Pike (U.S. Route 1), Lawrenceville. NJ.

A reception with refreshments and conversation with Ms. Koshoeva will follow the performance.

The program will include solo piano works of Bach, Mozart, and Chopin, as well as a Rachmaninov sonata for piano and cello performed by Ms. Koshoeva with cellist Jordan Enzinger.

Admission is $20 for individual non-members and $10 for full-time student non-members. The box office opens at Jacobs Music 30 minutes before each concert. Seating is limited, so please arrive early to assure a seat.

Choral singers welcome. No auditions, no rehearsal, just the joy of song. Scores will be provided if you need one. Members and students sing for free. Guests are $10. At the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton, Rt 206 at Cherry Hill Road, Princeton NJ

Members of the community gathered together for the common and joyful enterprise of making music, to sing through for their own pleasure the great works in choral literature, with chorus, orchestra, and soloists as the works require. The meetings are informal readings in which any musically interested person may join the chorus. Conductors usually do some preparation with the chorus before the sing-through.
