Sourland Spectacular

Birding Field Trip, Washington Crossing Audubon Society

Join Washington Crossing Audubon Society at 9 AM on Saturday, September 8 for a walk led by Brad Merritt at the Forsythe NWR at Brigantine. "The Brig" offers great viewing access to migrating shore birds, terns, raptors, waterfowl, herons, egrets and the occasional uncommon bird. For more information or in event of inclement weather, call Brad at (609) 921-8964. Directions: Take the Garden State Parkway South to exit 48, then Rte. 9 South for approximately 5 miles. Look for the Brigantine Forsythe NWR sign on the left, and turn left onto Great Creek Road. Meet in the parking area.

Montgomery EMS (MEMS) is hosting a Community Blood Drive on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 9 am to 1 pm at the Montgomery EMS squad building on 8 Harlingen Rd. Belle Mead, NJ 08502.

Please join us to help save lives, by giving blood. Donors will receive a coupon for a free single cup of Thomas Sweet Ice Cream. Rain Barrel Workshop, The Watershed Institute

Join the Franklin Township Environmental Commission and The Watershed Institute for a workshop on rain barrel harvesting. Come learn about water quality in New Jersey, watershed protection and the "river-friendly" actions you can do at home. Participants will be given instructions for installation, care and appropriate uses. At the end of the workshop, you may take your rain barrel home.  $35 for materials

16th Annual Insect Festival, Mercer Educational Gardens

The 16th annual Insect Festival sponsored by the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, at Mercer Educational Gardens, 431A Federal City Road, Hopewell Township. Admission is free and on-site parking is available.

This year’s theme, “Bug Us,” will provide educational activities for visitors of all ages. The festival will feature a puppet show as well as the “Big Bug Band.” Bees, Butterflies, Bugs Galore, Bugs in Water, Games in the Garden and an Insect Hunt in the Meadow, and Q&A with Barbara J. Bromley, Mercer County’s Horticulturist, highlight the many fun activities planned to help visitors learn about the importance of insects in our lives.

Meet ‘n greet instructors and enjoy music and games with Chris Rollins of Chris and the Crew on WPST! Ice cream treats from the bent spoon will be available for sale.
