Birding Field Trip, Washington Crossing Audubon Society

Join Washington Crossing Audubon Society from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 5 for a guided walk led by Brad Merritt to observe spring songbird migrants at Garret Mountain Reservation, a Passaic County Park located just south of Paterson, NJ. We may also visit the adjacent Rifle Camp Park. Bring a lunch. Directions: Take I-287 to I-80. Go east to exit 56A (Squirrelwood Road). Go to the stop sign and turn right on Rifle Camp Road. Go up the hill about 0.5 miles to Mountain Ave., which comes in from the left. Turn left on Mountain Ave. (look for an army tank and the reservoir on the left) and go 0.3 miles to the entrance to Garret Mountain Reservation. Tractor Course, NOFA-NJ at North Slope Farm

Tractors are very versatile vehicles with a wide variety of uses and knowing proper safety and maintenance is paramount. Whether you are seasoned or a beginner this comprehensive course taught by Shane LaBrake is for you! Join us at North Slope Farm in Lambertville, NJ for a two day, hands-on workshop that demystifies tractors and empowers their users to operate and maintain their machines more safely and with greater skill and confidence. The course will cover both four-wheel tractors and two-wheel tractors and common implements. Attendees are encouraged to bring specific questions regarding their equipment. This course is hands-on and intensive, running from 9 am to 5 pm each day. Portions of it will be conducted outside. Please wear appropriate clothing and closed-toe footwear that can be dirtied with oil and grease stains and is adequate for the forecasted weather conditions. The cost of registration includes a tractor safety and maintenance manual as well as lunch on both days. Attendees are encouraged to bring water and snacks.

Garden State African Violet Club presents an African Violet Exhibit and Plant Sale on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Please join us at Mercer County Community College, Student Center/ Faculty Dining Room, for our exhibit, educational seminars and plant sale. We will have exhibits depicting all aspects of growing African violets and other Gesneriads. Hands-on workshops will be done throughout the day so you can learn how to grow beautiful plants. Hundreds of member and commercially grown African violet plants and Gesneriads will be for sale.

The event is being organized by fourteen-year-old Olivia Meyerson of Lawrenceville, NJ, and her brother, Mason, 12. The mission of the event is bring awareness to BRCA-related cancers through creative means as well as to raise money to benefit The Basser Center, for research and to find a cure.
