Kevin Frank's Wheeler Express
Home Up Tom McCaa's Minimax Kevin Frank's Wheeler Express Victor's Auriga

Kevin Frank is building a modified Wheeler Express, an all-composite four seater.   What sets this airplane apart is that, for a four-seater, it is small, sleek, fast, and relatively inexpensive.  Its claim to fame is an unusual rear seat configuration where one passenger faces forward while the other faces aft. This configuration accomplishes two objectives: it allows the fuselage to stay narrow, thus improving cruise speed, and it creates a convenient extra baggage compartment ahead of the aft-facing seat.   Ken Wheeler designed this airplane as a family recreational craft that could get four adult-sized people, with skis, to the mountains fast.  What about that ski requirement? Well, that unusual rear seat configuration comes to the rescue again. Space is left between the rear seats to allow skis to stick out of the rear baggage compartment. Ken has thought of everything.

Kevin enthusiastically says "[The project is] still nowhere near complete, but at least it looks like an airplane now."  Keep at it Kevin, and we'll all cheer for you on your first test flight.
