This year, Mobile
Meals of Trenton celebrated 26 years of
serving the homebound in the Greater Trenton Area. This mission of
delivering hot, nutritious meals to people in need was first realized on
April 2, 1973, when a team of 10 volunteers served meals to the first four
participants. Twenty six years later, Mobile Meals of Trenton delivers
approximately 30,000 meals annually to 400 customers on six routes throughout
the city.
The dedication of board members and ninety volunteers who deliver the meals, raise funds, and publicize the program to the community make Mobile Meals of Trenton a vital organization. Mobile Meals of Trenton is supported by United Way of Greater Mercer County, area churches, organizations, individuals and grants from U.S. Department of Agriculture, FEMA, and gifts from foundations. In addition, funds are raised through four fund raising events including an Annual Boutique and Golf Outing. Mobile Meals of Trenton provides therapeutic diets, referral service, health and nutrition education, voter registration and an opportunity for recipients to be a part of a caring community. From the very beginning Covenant Presbyterian Church has actively supported Mobile Meals through mission giving. Currently, Betsy Diggs and Debbie Peters represent Covenant on the Board of Directors. Debbie serves as Vice President. Besides the financial support of the church many Covenant members have actively served as volunteers each week or as substitutes. Those currently involved in the ministry are: Allan Drake, Anna Eure, Jane Politi, Michael Reilly, Priscilla Smith, Carol Stawski, Alice Wardlow, Maria Wehr and Geneva Williams.
